Swapping my GMT2c for a Sub C, advice needed please
Hey guys n gals,
I have a Rolex GMT2c which I purchased new from my local AD last year. I love the watch but find the PCL's a nightmare with everyday use. I have the opportunity to swap my watch for a 2012 Sub C. I saw the watch on eBay and contacted the seller. He has sold over 550 watches on eBay and has 100% positive feedback. He has sent me additional pictures of the watch along with pictures of the warranty card, manual and box. The watch originated in Spain looking at the pictures but for some silly reason I feel slightly nervous about. Maybe my nerves might be down to the fact I spent years saving to buy my Rolex and don't want to get burned. He said he sells watches for a living and even offered me a receipt. What are your thoughts guys, anything I should be wary of? |

Because somebody sells watches on e-bay, and makes a living at it, does not mean that they are a legitimate business.. I would approach any deal with caution and research the seller and his wares carefully..
As to your problem.. It is so easy to brush the PCL's on a bracelet, I wonder why you wouldn't just do that for penny's rather than take a price hit on a trade..

Try trusted sellers at newturfers.com, the uk trf, gmts are common so no need to get it from ebay.

Good luck! |

Just have the PCLs brushed if you otherwise like your watch. No risk.

fIRST OF all, I would not trade A GMT2C for a sub ... The gmt2c kicks any sub's behind when it comes to looks ... Next, I would not use ebay. I would look at our local TRF sellers here on TRF.

I'm an eBay novice and as such, without knowing the specifics, I'd be nervous too.
One thing for sure though: If any doubt on your behalf persists, walk away. |

Brush the PCLs. It's so easy and makes a drastic difference.
I like the GMTC both ways, but love the brushed.

I'm with Larry.
Why buy from some unknown on eBay. So many other alternatives. What do you think? |

Ebay is a great place to buy anything if you know what you are doing. I've, to date, purchased two Rolex watches off the bay with zero issues. I will agree with others though to just brush the links of your current watch, as the GMT for a Sub swap is an interesting one at best. However, if you really want the SubC, post the link in the "Watch Out" section and let others have a look at it to give some advice. It's just my humble opinion, and I know there are sleaze bags on the bay, however, the buyers protection is there for a reason. Buy the seller before any watch, and then examine the watch in all facets. If anything seems fishy, don't purchase.

I would not do that trade. The GMT is just too much more of a watch. IMO.

I've owned both and the glidelock clasp on the Sub makes it a winner over the GMT in my opinion. I like the GMT's look, though.

Might be worth saying who the seller is as we may be able to instantly dispel any fears, some of the UK's biggest sellers are on eBay.

What's the ballpark cost to brush the center links? I just purchased a GMT IIc and was planning to get a sub as well for different occasions (and I'm addicted), but maybe I'll just ride it out with the GMT for awhile and keep this option if I end up hating the PCL's.
My datejust is all brushed, I'm thinking that's more my style. |

Thanks for the replies guys, the seller is called Stevenfromsweden on the bay, the item number is: 261177290395.
I think I might stick with the GMT go down the brushed road, but then im worried about re-sale as effectively its no longer an original watch. |

I would not get it brushed. Just live with he PCLs. It's a great looking watch. But if the PCLs really bothered me I'd trade it for the Sub C before messing around with the PCLs. All that brushing and repolishing cannot be good for the finish. But that's me. Either way I'd stay away from eBay. Trusted sellers on TRF are the way to go. But sounds like you, made your choice.....Enjoy

Don't brush it man. When you brush the bracelet you leave fine grooves in the metal, making it necessary to remove a lot more metal when re-polishing. Plus, if the person polishing isn't careful, the adjacent links will suffer damage to the innermost part, closest to the center links.
I was contemplating brushing my GMT as well, but a VERY respected watchmaker on this forum advised against it. I took his advice. |

Yes, glidelock makes the sub a winner! I wonder if there is some sneaky way to get a glidelock for a gmt? (Since rolex is so stingy with parts!)
