Confessions of a Chronic Flipper

For the last 3 years I have been trying to build a collection of watches I liked. I knew I had sold a few as I continued to refine my collection guided by the knowledge I acquired on this great forum. I have mostly Rolex pieces which I traded up to precious metal versions. I have also purchased a few AP's and even a Patek recently.
But last night while meandering throughout the website I decided to look up my past posts. I counted over 60 feedbacks to Oscar Bodybump and a few to other trusted sellers. Since I only give feedbacks when I spend money, could this even be possible? Moreover my first post is a thank you for my 6th purchase. Sickness, madness, obsession or just ...hobby?
This has been a wake up call for me. I am now fully aware of what I have done and will take appropriate action.
That being said, I can't wait for Oscar to show up with the new AP RGRC that I traded my wg Daytona for!

It's a sickness alright! Congrats in advance! You may want to lose Oscar's cel # going forward.

Its a sickness like gambling. As long as you can afford it, then its not a problem. There is something to be said or owning a wach forever and making memories with it on.

I agree it is serious but thanks to the forum and advice from trusted sellers I can say I've never lost more than 5% and have had some gains. I guess I view it as an almost liquid retirement fund savings account since I've never had a problem selling anything. Although it doesn't bear interest it provides happiness and that's important to me.
I guess I'm pretty eccentric. I"m single , drive a 1968 Chevy and have modest living expenses. I appreciate the concern from fellow forum members but it is not a "whoa"situation. There is a method to my madness. I guess I was just shocked when I counted the feedbacks.

I'd be just like you if I let myself. Instead, I'm pretty deliberate in my watch dealings so have been able to keep the flipping to a minimum. That's not to say that I'm not sorely tempted every time I checkout the FS section!

Sorry. Didn't mean anything by my "Whoa" comment other than 60 seemed like a high number to me. I imagine it surprised you as well.

You seem to be enjoying yourself. Please carry on! Flip in the best of health :-)

The wg Daytona was the last of my "flippable" pieces. I know talk is cheap but I am very determined to keep what I have worked so hard to acquire. This matter reinforced what I already knew and I will be very selective in the future.
And although I saw a post by a member that was looking for urgent help on whether he should "flip" his Rolex precious metal trifecta, I realize saying and doing are entirely different things. I respect his opinion and advice very much.

Have fun, just do your best to save enough money so at the end of the day you won't have to eat ramen for the rest of your life.

I would be afraid to do a tally. I like you tho, am done.

I like what I have, and won't be flipping any of them.

And waiting for Basel to see if I get anymore.

60+ in three years...roughly 2 a month for 3 years straight...whoa, wow, sickness, addiction...all these fit.

Thats quite a run you got going; I would like to see a thread with a picture of each flip, never mind, probably create bandwidth problems for TRF

Congrats on a successful 3 years.

Never say never. Everything is flipable for the right piece regardless of what you have.

That's not a good picture of a retirement or any sort of savings fund.

You may tolerate many small losses now, but overall it's burning money up, and you will eventually lose your appetite for that.

Repeat after me...

"Hello, my name is Mark and I am an addicted flipper"

Well, if math is any help, the FV of your various losses and then reinvested gains could be up to $1Million. But it's just money...
