Recommendations for easy to read dials
My eyes aren't what they used to be so finding a watch with a dial that's easier to read at night is what I'm looking for next.
I have a 16234 roman rhodium dial but since it doesn't have any lume it's challenging to tell the time in low light situations so it's been sitting in my safe since October :(. I've been wearing a 16710 almost 24/7 now and waking up in the middle of the night and looking at the time takes a few seconds for my eyes. It's a keeper but wanted to know if there are some dials that are easier to read and what would be recommended. Thanks! As a side note, I'm waiting for the Pelagos to appear in U.S. stores to check it out for this reason. |

That is a great looking watch & reminds me of a question I have always had.
Why doesn't Rolex make the bezel markers on Subs, GMTs, etc... with lume like the Tudors? It seems it would make sense especially if you are using a Sub underwater or a GMT / Exp II at night. Looks like Tudor is on the money here |

I'm in the same boat as the AP. Checked out several models over several companies. I too really liked the Tudor that Mike posted, but it overwhelmed my wrist (at least visually). I settled on the Explorer II (216570) Polar, primarily because it was easy to read, then because it didn't overwhelm my wrist, then because it was tough, then because it was beautiful, and lastly because it was a Rolex.

I have terrible eyesight and the best Rolex I have ever owned for visibility and ease of reading, hands down is the new 114060 ND SUB C! Do yourself a big favor and check one out before you buy anything else.

I'm in the same boat. 39mm Explorer works for me well. Definitely the newest Explorer II but with the black face dial for contrast but I ended up getting the Sub-C Date.
It's ashame that I can only see the time but hard pressed with out reading glasses the fine printing on the dial. Not important but would be nice to see it clear and admire the whole watch itself. A Pan or Bell and Ross is perfect for aging eyes and the lume at night is awesome!

Just got my first 45mm Panerai....That's the watch if you have difficulty reading a dial!

fyi: had the Explorer II 42mm it is wonderful ... for me the Aquanaut is easier to read.
found the new sub minute hand to be not quite big enough to see in the dark. Panerai is certainly a great option!

Omega Planet Ocean
Omega 2254.50 or any 300M cousin (sword hands) Omega Speedmaster The first two offer top notch for night time lume legibility and persistance. The Speedmaster has those razor sharp bright white plastic hands against a mat black dial. Perfect even when the lume has run low.

Omega Planet Ocean, out of all my watches, have the most legible dial, due to the AR coating and also the outstanding lume.

Luminox Field watch. 42mm. Superior lume. Most legible dial in the dark, hands down. I use it instead of an alarm clock.
