Any Nikon D800 or Canon 5D MKIII shooters?
I'm picking up this hobby again, I don't have too much invested in it as currently I only have a Nikon D7000, 18-200 VR, 50/14 and a SB flash so I can either go Canon 5D MKIII with L glass or get a Nikon D800 (e or not) and start investing in their real glass.
I'll mostly do available light photography, people/portraits and travel photography. Some sport, like kids football/soccer and basketball, skiing etc. Any users of either system to comment/give advise? Cheers, Patrick |

I'm delighted with my D800... check out my "Up close" thread for a few macro shots.

why would you think a Nikon D7000 is not adequate? Just buy good glass. That camera is outstanding!

I want full frame, bigger/brighter 100% viewfinder, better AF system, better HD video plus a bunch of other pro-level features. The D7000 is a nice and fun camera, I might keep it as a backup and let the kids learn on it.

Both great cameras, as with watches camera users tend to get quite tribal when it comes to preferences. Personally I go Canon but only because I've invested in a stock of lenses I would not want to have to re buy if I changed brand.

D800 user here. Love the camera. Love the resolution. I'm going to try to shoot video on the thing to see how that goes soon. We're planning on shooting a film in May for the 48 Hour Film Project using 2 D800s. Test runs soon.

I have the D800e among many others. Great camera. Large cumbersome files but great for our macro enlargements. As another member said...it's all about the glass...and Nikon has some very good lenses.

D7100 is out now - by the specs, it should be awesome.

D800 shooter here. Never looked at Canon so can't say. It's an absolute delight to be able to get such high resolution pictures with this body.
Just remember once you get the D800, your auxilliary expenses on memory cards, hard drives, computer power go up substantially because every shutter count is like 70Mbyte of storage, and Photoshop will be grinding to a halt if you haven't got a beefy computer. Nevertheless, I won't swap it for anything else, maybe the D800E :-) |

I've got a D5000, which seems pretty good, but I use my phone more!
