To Dive or Not to Dive... Rolex vs AP
Ok, so here is a tough one. Between these two beautiful divers, what would be your choice and why?

The DEESPEA Ofcourse ... it is the GOD of dive watches. I have never heard of AP being a diving watch. I doubt AP can sustain water pressure beyond a pool's depth ... But if I were to dive, I would not take either of them with me. I would take a G-shock. The DSSD needs to be babied and the less water it sees, the better!

Alltough not a huge fan of the DSSD even less of a fan of any of the RO range of dive watches just do not like there style so would choose the DSSD its a far better looking watch.

Agreed. On looks alone there is no contest. Classic Rolex beauty vs. newfangled ugly.

for me, personally, AP diver over DSSD any day of the week. but, i do see the appeal of the DSSD, too (from an over-the-top engineering perspective).
also, try posting this in the AP subforum....i'm thinking the results might be a tad different. EDIT: george's post below makes a good point (though i would be happy to own the AP diver). |

If actually used for diving then the DSSD, as it has a dive extension built into the clasp and bezel is easily accessible.
If I were to purchase a diver because divers are cool watches then I would go with the AP as it is significantly more refined and comfortable. I found the DSSD to be too high off of the wrist. Personally, would not own either watch.

I honestly would never buy an AP....just can't justify the money spent for one.

I vote for the AP. You have to see one in the flesh to feel and see the beauty of it. I love the rolex look, I am about to pull the trigger on an Sub-C but as the owner of an AP, I would take the AP over the DSSD. But both are gorgeous, well finished and will last a lifetime. Tke the one that sing the most to you in the end but be sure to see and try both in the flesh.

I'd wear the AP.... Because in case anything bad happens to it, at least you'll still have the Rolex LOL

I totally agree with this statement. G-shock is rugged, functional and can be cheaply replaced, but doubt you'd ever have to replace it. In terms of looks the Deep Sea is brillant. For understated luxury, the AP is equal to driving an Audi. So do you want a Jeep, a Mercedes-Benz or an Audi?

I would say Deep Sea as well, but if I were to buy another watch it would be the AP Diver on a bracelet. Such a stunning watch. Good luck, can't wait to see what you decide!

Most of the time AP over Rolex, but this isn't my favorite AP so I'd go Deep Sea

The only AP's I like are the classics Royal oak like the 15202, 15300 or the 26300 all n 39MM. The offshores are ugly to me and too bulky for my skinny wrists.

That would be an easy choice for me as I prefer neither.
DSSD too big, where a Sub will do nicely. As for watches, I would prefer and AP over a Rolex but I cannot stand rubber straps, so that kills that model for me.

The AP is beautifully made and the finish of the dial, case and bezel in particular are an outstanding work of art but I would never dive with the Royal Oak Offshore Diver, those sharp edged bezels are too easy to ding and I wouldn't trust the water resistance compared to any Rolex Oyster let alone the DSSD.....
The AP is high maintenance and great to wear but not really comparable to the DSSD as a divers watch. Interestingly Watchtime magazine tested the AP diver and rated it 83/100, the DSSD rated 93/100 which I think is one off their highest scores. I would still like to own the AP Offshore Diver to wear on occasions and enjoy the craftsmanship but if I could only afford one or the other it's the DSSD everytime. |

If its looks both looks ugly.
Rolex looks too old AP literally screwed the back in. Lack of craftmentship In terms of movement and encampment Rolex is better due to grid lock (this one has it right) Auto gas thingy Goes down deeper Bezel turns (right?) Ceramic bezel Steel belt *This should not be taken seriously due to my lack of knowledge and personal opinion. |

I believe the DSSD is a better "dive watch", but the AP will win out for me anyday without a second thought.

I would go AP due to wrist comfort. I feel it sits better. I want to like the DS due to the engineering but the Ap is more comfortable. Both should perform equally well in normal diving conditions.
