i am not sure on this one, rolex did allow co signed watches from cartier and tiffany, i believe the only way to tell is if you have an original sales reciept the watches are exactly the same bar the extra branding on the dial, which has been faked as they are rarer and worth more.
a few web photos

These models are very rare and hard to know if genuine or aftermarket stamped cartier. I read about a submariner with a cartier dial which was genuine not sure about this one though

It its not a fake. Rolex made watches for sale at Cartier stores during the sixties and seventies, gotta check about details but that really happened. From time to time some of these watches appear for sale. I've seen pictures of some Rolex with the Cartier name on the dial, just like the Swiss Bucherer and Tiffany did. "Cuervo y Sobrinos" at La Habana did it too. You can find Rolex, Patek, Breitling, Omega, Longines and Roskopf among many other brands with "Cuervo y Sobrinos, La Habana" on the dial.

The Cartier font is different on that dial. The dial looks to have original patina throughout, I've still never seen a dial like that though. I don't think there's enough info to say whether its real or fake at this point. But more research should definatley be pursued. Is this your watch? Can you post the first 3digits of the sn In 999xxx form? And the model number maybe a more similar watch could be found. Very cool watch though and I hope it is real!!!

If drake bought it im sure its legit, I don't think he'd be rocking a fake watch. glad to see he's got a nice taste in vintages. that really looks to be like a 50's dial possibly 60's. really neat watch.

^ that's a gross misconception. He's not intelligent in the least
And I'd fully expect him to buy into a fake. I personally think This is a very well done fake from hk. There are too many flags To be anything else. I'd stay away without a lot of documentation. My understanding is that the logos are added after they leave The Rolex factory so I doubt Rolex would issue a coa. |

i've seen cartier and tiffany signed dials. and a hermes stamp on the back of a rolex, so this could be legit.

Cartier did retail Rolex watches for a brief time. This is not one of them.

I've seen a number of these and the Tiffany's flopping around the vintage watch market, ebay, and on-line auctions. It certainly could be authentic, and then again, it could be fake. You have to look at the movement, verify any model numbers, then determine if the dial, crown, etc. all match the time frame that Cartier placed their named logo on these watches. In my opinion, it is likely real but I hope he did not pay a lot for it because it is a simple Oyster and not really anything special. Yes, the signed Cartier and Tiffany are somewhat rare but they do not command a high price such as a vintage Prince or vintage Sub. This watch should not be more than $3,000 but more likely around $1800 if it has been serviced and in working order. It's a stainless steel, not even white gold. Nothing exciting to me.

The Cartier logo does not match any of those I have ever seen.
I'd also venture to say the era is not correct for the collaboration. |

The dial looks good, but 'cartier' does not. As far as I know, Cartier was not dealing with Rolex watches in the 50s. (60s and 70s - OK, but not 50s - at least I have never seen one). Cartier always numbered their cases (there should be a VERY identifiable number stamped on the back of the lug.
As it stands right now, I would bet it's NOT correct Cartier/Rolex. and this is kinda sad, since the dial looks really nice. |

Are you talking about his watch? It's been on ebay at least three times in the past month. The number of the lugs do not look right.
Nice Rolex, but (to me) it's not a Cartier/Rolex. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ROLE...p2047675.l2557 ....... well, I just found this site: http://ch-u.us/2011/11/08/rolex-x-cartier/ If this watch was Eric's, and if Eric says that it's good - I would absolutely take his work for it. Vlad |

Rolex clearly did co-brand w/ Cartier & a number of retailers for a number of years. The text size on that dial is way bigger than any I've seen. I believe that there are many more
"Gaff" co-branded dials than Rolex ever authorized or produced. I'd guess that the dial in question falls into the catagory suggested! I remember seeing a half dozen Tiffany dials on credible vintage pieces in the hands of the same marketer & I know that they were"customized".......Buy the seller! |
