Are you happy with your 16610LV? Worth the $$?
Hi folks,
I have my heart set on the 16610LV. I am also considering the 16710 PEPSI BUT leaning more towards the LV. For those who have an LV, are you guys comfortable with the green insert and the Maxi dial? Also, I am hearing something disturbing from some sellers --- they are telling me that "when the bubble of the LV bursts, prices will come down". I do not know what they mean exactly but it gives me the impression that they think the 16610LV is a gimmick ... thank you. |

Look buy the LV because you like it. It's a cool reference and represents a transition time in Rolex. The prices right now are absurd however. The piece is by no means rare but if people are willing to pay 2k over the original asking prices for a used piece, then that's what the market demands. Speculating mass produced watches like you would stock is absurd. If you like to dive and you like the color green get the watch. If you travel and like red/blue get the GMT. It's that simple.
Personally I'd go with the 16710 Pepsi if given the option but I would never shy away from the LV if offered at a reasonable price. |

People have different ideas when it comes to value and worth. I personally think 16610LV prices are insane but others are still buying them at these ridiculous prices. You just need to figure out if the 16610LV is worth,to you, what people are asking.

As much as the 16610LV is commanding these days, a LV-C is the prudent choice, but the 16710B is not far behind in price.

Any piece is worth the price you pay as long as you're happy (within reason).....I bought a Random-serial LV for about 7.3k new-in- box....a bit more than I expected but I love the watch, so it's worth it to me!

I went from the Explorer II, black dial, to the 16610LV. My reasons were that I preferred the larger hour markers, larger hands and larger crown. Did love the 24 hour capability of the EXP, but in the end I am very happy with the LV. Recently replaced the green bezel insert with a black one. So you ask why not go ahead and have just gotten the updated GMT? Preferred the classic case size. The LV is a great timepiece, but you can't go wrong with whichever brand or model you truly prefer. I am happy that I had the experience with the EXPII and wore it with pride, then learned what I wanted next. Haven't spent much time obsessing over another watch since.

I am really happy with my 16610LV. As others have said before; the maxi dial and green bezel is a great combination, plus it's nice having a piece that is not in the current lineup. I like the color of the LVc, but the 16610LV is more subtle which also suits me better. Not sure what the prices will be like in the future; it is all based on speculation, but we know there are thousands out there. The price for a BNIB stickered complete Mark 1 is a lot, but it doesn't sound like you want to lock it up in a safe. Good condition ones show up here reasonably often. For me, even if the value crashes it's not I watch I would flip short-term, so I don't really care about that. I agree with Evan that it's also a bonus that it has a prominent place in Rolex's history.

I own them both and totally get what your saying about "adding color to the collection".
My GMT gets more wrist time but I truly feel that the 16610LV has the most 'collectable' potential of any of the modern Rolex models. I like and use the features on both watches and I trade out inserts in the Sub just to mix it up from the green. The Maxi dial on the LV is great and really sets that model off from all the other 16610 subs. Ultimately you need to purchase the watch you love at a fair price and if you are anything like me; eventually you will end up with both. |

I've tried several times to really like it but for me it does nothing. A lot of money for a green watch basically. Now I love making green...spending green on a green watch...not so much!!

I had one (m-serial) and sold it just days after receiving it. It also did nothing for me. If it didn't have the whole anniversary thing going for it, I don't think it would be very popular. The newer hulk is a far better looking watch IMO.

That said, go with the LV or LVC. If you're going to pay 7k for a used watch just go ahead and spend the extra grand and get the brand new LVC with the glidelock bracelet. I love my old 16610 but if it wasn't a sentimental piece I would trade it in in a heartbeat for a GMTIIC or a LVC. To me the ideal collection is a LVC, GMTIIC, Explorer II Polar, and either a Milgauss or Datejust. I'd work towards that goal! |

It is an amazing watch that truly represents a unique edition of the most recognized and iconic Rolex watch ever produced - the Submariner!
It is the 50th anniversary edition of that watch and one that is distinguished with the bezel done in the iconic signature Rolex green color. It commands the premium price that it does for those reasons and another simple fact - it is worth it - here is why! People know that it is a discontinued watch...meaning there are no more being made. Simple as that. If you want one then there is a limited pool of available pieces to choose from...from that limited pool there are watches of different conditions. The ones in the best condition command the most money. Again, simple supply and demand. The supply is limited but the demand is not...so if you want one you pay the price for the honor of wearing this unique and iconic Rolex sub!

i got mine in 2005 and it my daily wearer, the LVC does nothing for me but thats purely personal choice. i bought mine as a tool watch that i love, i don't think that the same could be said about the newer models as I'm not a ceramic fan. each to their own and follow your heart

I paid top dollar for my BNIB LV in April 2011 with no regrets.
It was my daily till I picked up a SD, now it's my evening/night watch, the Maxi dial and larger hands make all the difference. You're a diver type guy and want some colour, 16610LV no contest, after wearing one Sub or another for over 30 years I find the touch of green a welcome change. |

I haven't worn mine in awhile, however, when I strap it on it does make me smile... Personally I believe purchasing a timepiece based on future value ruins the enjoyment of this hobby...
I think you would be happy with owning this fun modern Rolex reference! Good luck!

I've always a believer in buy what YOU like. It's always great to get the opinions of others, but in the end it's your wrist. Watches are not an investment for me. I buy what I like, and if I wanted an LV I would go get it. I think they're great, but right now I am thinking precious metal sports model or DJII.

Is the LV worth it.. ???
In today's market, with Internet sellers asking for a high premium and buyers paying it, then yes, in today's market it is "worth it".. Will that prove to be a wise purchase into the future ??? Well, nobody really knows or has a crystal ball to tell. If history has anything to say about it then perhaps it is not likely that an elevated LV market is sustainable into the long future..

Still a little jet lagged! I did not properly read your question... I don't own and have never owned a 16610LV... Good luck nonetheless OP!

I have both 16710 and 16610 LV and for some reason i tend to grab the LV more than the GMT. When they are side by side, there is something about the maxi dial that screams "pick me...pick me". I've been using the LV with rubber B band and like it very much.
Good luck with your choice. If you can try them both and pick the one that makes you smile... |

I would agree with this strongly. 16610LV is just an incredibly legible watch, I find it effortless to read the time.
Have no problem with the 16710 either. Hope to own it one day. The future pricing of the LV is another discussion. Given that the Hulk has been released for a few years, and yet LV prices have continued to go up says something about the popularity of this watch. It's a Submariner. It's an anniversary edition. It's discontinued. I would say the LV has a LOT going for it that would indicate prices will not simply "collapse."

I paid full retail for mine in 2007 and the day I went to pick it up I thought I had hit the lottery. They were impossible to find. I sold it today, 6+ years later for around $400 more than what it cost me out the door (So Cal sales tax). I had been eyeballing the Hulk since the day it came out. I loved my old LV and it was my daily wear. The Hulk however is a nicer looking watch IMO. I got one BNIB from a TRF seller for around 10% under retail. I wore it all day and couldn't stop staring at it.

I agree with the gentleman who indicated buying a Rolex based on future value, or perceived future value alone ruins the hobby.
I much, much prefer the LV-C to the LV. For some reason the LV never did it for me. Would the LV have been a more prudent financial choice? Perhaps. Then again, perhaps not; bottom line, I ENJOY wearing my all GREEN submariner and that's all that matters to me. |
