Explorer II 42mm, the hands

Just received my new Explorer II 42mm White, looking through a 5X loop at the edge of the hands, the black is uneven and you can see what appears to be the marks from cutting the metal, on the face of the hands the black finish is fine. On the orange hand, one side edge is orange the other side edge is gold/brass colored. I had read a review that said that this was an issue on the 40mm but had been resolved on the 42mm.

Are you guys seeing he same thing?

I bought the watch from a reliable source, not an AD, so there is that little thought in the back of your mind, could it be?

Also, has anyone been able to fake the laser coronet on the crystal?

Post some pics, if you can. Not of your concern with the hands, but the watch. And the laser coronet too ,if you can.

looking at my watch would through a 5X loop would be equal to looking through a girlfriends phone. it would only be a painful experience, some stuff you're better off not knowing...

I'll bet that if you were using a 10x loupe you would see even more machine marks and paint imperfections...

Heck, why stop there... there are a lot of microscopes you can get to look at every speck of dust, swirl mark, and even some porosity in the case stamping and dial paint matrix.. maybe the edges of the engravings are rough and wavy...

What my naked eyes don't see won't hurt me. I'd imagine that using a 5x loop to inspect other brands would reviele even more imperfections than Rolex

I have a 42mm white Exp II.

It looks great to the naked eye and that's good enough for me... and luckily I don't own a loupe or any kind of magnifying instrument.

However if it bothers you and if you think it'll gnaw at you, then I'd suggest trying to find a piece which doesn't have any imperfections.

If you can see the LEC with the naked eye than that could indicate a fake watch as its just on top of the crystal. The LEC on a genuine Rolex is etched into the crystal its not on the crystal surface or underneath it. Its made up of hundreds of tiny dot like bubbles set at different heights throughout the crystal, (its so it does not create a weakness in the crystal. And might I further suggest you throw away your lupe and just enjoy wearing your watch and yes the hands are 18Ct gold.

Amen to that!

You will always find imperfections on watches if you really want to, however well built and expensive they are. I'd recommend you to forget about those and enjoy your watch to the fullest!

Put down the loupe.

I'm sort of picky and I've yet to see any flaws in my black dialed Explorer 2.

Believe me, Im a real nut for this kind of thing! :-) I kind of like to challenge my high-end watches to see which has the most perfect finish under a 10X loupe. So far my Glashutte Original Sports Evo comes out on the top. The Rollies Ive found imperfections in the finish on the iridium dials, scratch marks on the markers, badly aligned hands, date wheel not symmetrical, I could go on... Gee boy if I had a microscope the list would never stop! Lol

However, based on what you're saying that does sound like a bit more significant than the usual imperfections and I would for sure be uneasy about it.

Congrats on getting your Expl. II

Rolex like race car to me - follow the 50/50 rule on appearance. If it looks good 50' away @ 50 mph, then alls well!

Is there anything in life that doesn't have imperfections? Imperfections are what give character. Now you know how to tell your watch apart from others.
