Pics of my new Exp II
...Well, new to me. This is the only pic I have right now. I will post some more in a few days. When I tried to get some good shots, I realized it wasn't happening without a Macro lens, which I don't have.
The watch is at my local AD getting looked over and authenticated. The guy at the shop said "it feels a little light but that could be because of the bracelet", but didn't really say anything else in way of it being authentic or not. Maybe you guys can tell from the pic I provided? It seems real to me, but I dont know anything, and Ive seen some pics of some pretty real looking fakes, so who knows? What do you guys think? The pic is pretty high res, so you can zoom in if you have to. Again, Ill post better pics when I get it back. Just wanted to share what I have for now. |

I can barely tell it's a watch from that pic.

Hard to tell from the photo. Let's see what the AD says.

In all fairness, I did acknowledge my picture taking skills aren't that great, and I didn't use the appropriate lens for the job. Maybe my old point and shoot can take better pics than my DSLR. We will see. Regarding it's authenticity, I'm anxiously awaiting what the tech at my AD has to say. Can't wait to get it back with a peace of mind that its genuine. If not 100% authentic, it'll be making another Fedex trip back to the seller and Ill be getting something else. The only reservations I have about it is the dial has a slight blemish on it just to the left of the 12 oclock position. It looks to be a white mark where the black finish has worn off the dial, almost as if someone scraped some of the finish off (though the dial isn't scratched, just has a white mark in the black finish, maybe like a scuff mark?). This doesn't seem like something that could just happen by itself, and I would expect better quality from Rolex. Kind of makes me wonder if the dial is aftermarket, or if someone untrained has taken it apart before. Other than that, hand stack is okay and from what I've read, most, if not all replicas can't get the crown functionality correct, and mine does what its supposed to in all positions. |

Update: Got a call from my AD, he said the watch looks good, no concerns with anything being aftermarket or fake.
He did say that he doesn't believe the spring rods (that hold the band onto the case) to be genuine, because they were very difficult to get off, but that could also be because of the age. He recommended doing a full service, just because we don't know when it was last done. Although he said there were no marks left inside the case (which he says a lot of watchmakers will leave when they do a service on a watch) he did say when he opened it up, it was still well oiled, and should be okay if I wait a year or two to have it serviced, so I think that is what I will do. The seller said it was serviced within the passed 2 years, and this is in line with what the tech said he saw. I am picking it up today after work. Ill get some real pics up tonight. Should I be on the lookout for some replacement spring bars, or should it not be a concern? |

Great news, what did he say about he mark on the dial? And yes, I'd replace those spring bars, very cheap insurance. Congratulations!

Tried to edit the first post, but it wouldn't let me. Bummer.
Heres the pics. Did the best I could with my point and shoot. If I zoomed in any further it wouldnt focus. Oh how I want a Macro lens for my DSLR! Included pics of everything the watch came with, though I'm sure no one cares about booklets. The box is from a Daytona, definitely not an Explorer box, but it's a nice box nontheless. I forgot to ask the tech about the blemish on the dial to the left of the 12 oclock position. You can barely make it out in the 3rd to last, and last pictures. It's honestly not anything I'm worried about it's so small. Just thought it was kind of odd. |

Sorry to keep posting in here, not trying to bump the thread up every 10 mins. I took the bracelet off, and it turns out its a 78790A which is a SEL bracelet. I always thought the Explorer II didnt get SELs until around 2003 or so? Good chance the bracelet was swapped out? Does this effect the value at all?
