Datejust Lume
Hello, all,
I just bought a D serial Datejust, champagne stick dial, and lumes don't seem to work. Hour and minute hands lumes work fine, but lumes on the dial don't light up. I have charged the lumes under fluorescent lights for few minutes. Is this normal? |

The lume on the markers are very tiny dots below the stick markers and Rolex lume is not the best around are you sure its a D serial.

The lume marker is a very very tiny surface area even compared to the hands but that dial looks older than a D serial the more lume and surface area the brighter it will glow. You could try charging it a bit longer then go into a totally black out room then you might see a bit of glow or change the dial to one that has more lume area..

You know... I'm not sure if that dial is original to that watch. I'm pretty sure that the lume is supposed to be applied on the stick not have those lume balls. F serial and previous models will have the stick like with lume dots while D serial (new case design) and newer models have lume applied on the stick.

I am not in any way trying to advertise these watches. I just wanted to show the OP the differences. The top one is a newer designed watch, just like the one you just purchased. Notice the lume. The bottom link is an older version of the DJ. This dial looks a lot like the one you have on your DJ. Where did you purchase the watch and did it come with paperwork? By the way, the lume balls should still light up. It's quite odd.

I bought it from Chris at Jaztime in Orang County, CA. You can find them on ebay, too. No papers. I will give him a call as soon as they open...

Glad you are made whole.
So was it a replaced dial after all? Now you can get another DJ - maybe from a trusted TRF seller.

I learned my lesson, definitely buying from the trusted seller next time. The dial was changed by the previous owner. It had a tritium lume dial on a D serial watch!
