Does the president get a new rolex when elected.

I was told some time ago that when a new president is elected he is given a new rolex by the rolex company. I was told that is why the bracelet is called a president. Any one know if that is true.

No. The Rolex DayDate was nicknamed "The President" after a DD was given to Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill after their leadership in the victory in WWII. The original bracelets were gold jubilees and Eisenhower had his DD refurbished by Rolex and they returned the watch with the new style bracelet.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

An interesting side note: President Johnson was being interviewed by Walter Cronkite [spelling?] when the president commented on Walter's watch. He told Johnson it was a Rolex president. Mr. Johnson's indignant reply was; I'm the president, why don't I have one? The next time both gentlemen met president Johnson was wearing a Rolex DD.

I chop a lot of wood on my ranch down in Texas. Will the chopping stretch the bracelet? Will it affect the movement? If the watch is running 10secs slow per day, should I hold the base of the axe with my left hand or right hand? Should I leave the bezel protector on?

I think the former Pontifex was presented with a President as with an Il Destriero Scafusia. Nice gifts but I believe they were never worn. A good decision, one must stay humble in a position like that.

I remember reading an article some time ago that somebody was able to remove and steal the Timex from his wrist as Mr. Bush was walking through a large group of people.

I am sure George Bush wears the watch to show austerity and deflect any criticism. But, unlike Clinton, Bush has a reputation for eschewing luxurious creature comforts. Do a google search about his private residence.........an austere ranch in Crawford. Make no mistake, he is a rich man, net worth in double figure millions and that figure will get much larger after he leaves office.

Actually, Bush's watch was never stolen. There are other angles of his visit that show him taking it off and putting it in his pocket before he starts to shake hands with the crowd.

I haven't been to 43's ranch, but I doubt that "austere" is an accurate description. I have been to my share of Texas ranches owned by some well off folks, and you'd be surprised what's lurking under that tin roof and behind the limestone facade. People pay a lot of money to make their 5,000 acre weekend hideaway look like a piece of the wild west, but inside you're still going to find modern high-end appliances and 60" plasma TVs. A decent ranch property can run $1 million to $10 million or more, depending on region, water access, size, and proximity to a major city. And then you have to build a house and supply it with running water, electricity, telecommunications, etc--costs a little more when you're out in the boonies. Not to mention decorating: that dining table that looks like a mangled live oak tree with a couple of railroad ties strapped across it probably cost as much as a Daytona.
