Rolex Insurance Appraisal in Toronto area?

Hello, I would like to get insurance on my watch and for that I require an appraisal that is approved by insurance companies. The watch I have is brand new so I do not watch a butcher job of someone incorrectly opening the case, scratches, etc.

Does anyone have suggestions for places to get insurance legal appraisals in the Toronto area? Preferably on the spot appraisal or wait a few hours appraisal and come back - I do not know what would take so long it is a brand new submariner. Some places where I live in Kitchener/Waterloo are telling me they need to send it in and it will take a week to appraise a brand new watch?? It still has most stickers on. If no one knows a good on the spot place what about any other one in this area, even if it takes a few days? I would prefer a place that is recognized by Rolex, or a reputable jeweler.

I would also like advice on how to ensure that I can cover myself from damage that is sustained during an appraisal. For example I have seen pictures where the case tool slips and the indents that the tool goes into get "smeared". Waterproofness being effected/limited after appraisal, etc. How can I ensure I can prove they did it, and am compensated if this happens? I do not believe I am being OCD to worry about this - I have read many horror stories and "watch out" stories of service people and appraisal people shrugging off minor damage.

Any general info on getting appraisals and covering myself for damage/theft during it as well as a good location around here is appreciated. I am mostly worried about minor damage sustained that they will say they didnt do or does not effect function and therefore I do not get anything for it.

Take it to RSC Toronto on St. Claire Ave. They will be able to do it for you no problem and potentially free of charge.

I got mine from the Rolex Boutique (La Différence) after I purchased from them FOC.

I was not aware rolex did appraisals themselves. This is great. I will call and ask for details, but until I get to doing that...anyone have an idea on the turn around time for an appraisal with them?

Should be free from where you bought it from if it is brand new. They should be able to just send you one.

SHOULD be free. I know the AD a few miles up the road charges $80 for appraisals. because and I quote him.

I will have no problem paying for an appraisal from Rolex. I was quoted 50$ for an appraisal by a reputable jewelry store in town however they send the items to "some guy".

Thats been my experience when buying brand new, did you speak with the AD or whomever you purchased the watch from ?

Exactly...just bought a new Omega from an AD and it came with an appraisal without even asking !

If it was bought brand new, which I assume because it still has the stickers on, and bought from an AD why wouldn't the receipt be enough for the insurance valuation?

It was purchased from forum member canwatchco. It was technically purchased second hand by me even though stickers were still on and my name is on the warranty card. Was purchased originally at AD in Montreal.

For some reason not all insurance companies will take a receipt for valuation. They require an appraisal.

Pick an AD. Damiani and Humbertown come to mind.

I just wanted to get my caseback open and he said it was an $80 appraisal I would have to pay for to do so, and he was a complete . ended up going to the pawnshop where they opened my caseback and checked everything out for me free and gave me an appraisal. and if I would've paid the AD $80, The appraisal wouldn't have been a valid appraiser to my insurance anyway so I was pretty happy. and the approved one cost me $30 per item but since we brought in like 10 things he only charged $25 per item.

I got an appraisal for my watch for insurance purposes at the time of my purchase. It was absolutely free. When I bought my watch from Damiani Jewellers in Woodbridge, they prepared an appraisal form for me on the spot. It took about 5 minutes to produce a full colour copy that I sent to my insurance company immediately.
