Datejust Dials
I have a 16200 and want to swap out my dial. Does anyone know of a good source of legit dials where one might purchase?
Thanks in advance. JL

I am new to the Rolex scene, both as an owner and on this website. What I understand to be the case is Rolex tries to keep a very tight leash on all their dials. An AD will get his allocation of inventory, with all the models configured with different dials and bracelets. A customer sees a DJ in the case, but wants a different dial, the AD must first send the original dial to Rolex and await the desired dial. And not all dials are interchangeable. Rolex may let you put a stick dial into any watch, but won't let you put, say Roman numerals/rhodium dial onto a watch. Certain dials are for original, as shipped. At least that is what my AD said is the case.
I have no doubt there is a grey world of dealing in Rolex dials, but I wouldn't entrust such a thing to anyone but an AD. Just my 2 cents.

There's no Retail Rolex Store where you can just walk in, look into a catalog, tell the sales clerk 'I'll take that one!' and walk out with a new dial in your pocket.
Dial changes are 'officially' sanctioned in the USA by the RSC only and almost always as part of a full service, where the old dial is kept and new one installed. As the previous poster indicated, and as with all things Rolex, there are 'rules' as to which dial is available for purchase/trade on a watch...in other words, what Rolex considers to be a 'premium' dial style cannot be placed on a watch with a 'standard' dial design, even though there would have been no extra charge at the original purchase. But, through the magic of sales forums and auction sites and various on line sources, Rolex dials have made it to the free marketplace, however, when dealing with a source that does not have the coveted crown, a buyer would have to exercise certain checks to assure authenticity. An independently sourced dial can be put on a watch by any skilled watch repair person. |

If you already know the dial you want, then post a WTB in the TRF classifieds. Just be choosy about who you buy from. Trusted sellers here don't dabble in aftermarket dials.
You also have the option of a refinished custom dial - cruise through the Parts and Accessories section on TRF. Lastly there are some trusted sellers on eBay - you'd need to do some background checking but a legit dial can sometimes be just a hair off if it didn't come from the same vintage of your 16200, so be sure it can be returned.

I appreciate the replies..
I am well aware you cannot walk in a pick a dial. I do see them pop up once in a while and wondered if anyone had any up for sale. I do have a WTB out and will hit a few independent watchmakers here in town. As for what I want I change my mind often on that decision. Thanks guys.
