Grandpa's Watches
Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum and I am hoping someone can help me. My grandfather was recently put in a nursing home due to dementia. While cleaning out his house, I can across a box of watches. Now, knowing how eccentric my grandfather was when he was younger makes me want to believe that these watches are the real deal, but something about them just isn't right. For instance, one Rolex has a back on it that says "Kish", another one says Philip Persio, and the other one says nothing. None of them are running at the moment, and I know that by seeing the movement, I would be able to tell if they were legit or not, but is there another way to check? Is it common for people back in the day to switch bands and battery covers? I will post pictures below and maybe someone can help me authenticate these watches. The forth watch in the box is a Mathey Tissot in 14k gold. This one winds up and works perfect. Knowing that one is real makes me want to think that the Rolex watches are real as well, but just modified. Any help that anyone here can offer will be much appreciated. If they turn out to be real they will go a long way towards paying for my grandfather to live the rest of his day with homecare instead of losing his dignity in a nursing home. Thank you. |

Sorry, but the "Rolex" watches are all 100% counterfeit. Rolex never made anything that looks close.

Grandfathers are getting a pretty bad reputation in the TRF Watch Out section.

"Could my grandfather [uncle, etc.] plausibly have owned a Rolex, or multiple luxury watches?"
I always wonder if this question occurs to the posters who offer up these stories. It seems to be at least a sensible starting point. Because most folks of an earlier generation who led very modest lives financially, and weren't consumers of other luxury goods, didnt just happen to hoard Rolexes. |

Not very much Swift_Movement. Being myself a German, it just left me wondering. Its an unusual word combination. Thats it!
