Basel 2008 : Daytona upgrade?
Dear all,
I am new to this forum and want to have your feedback on what I have read concerning Daytona SS that will probably be upgrade for Baselfair: 1-No change 2-Black PVD coated 3-New ceramic ring (like 6263) instead of steel 4-Larger diameter 5-Completely new model My choice would be 1 'No change' but with Rolex we never know If not (new model or slights changes), the 116520 would become a highly collectible item as it would be: -Produced for a short period (2000-2007) -The first in house rolex chronograph Regards Raph75 |

The only change I'd like to see is that they make MORE of the damn things! I would like to get one in my lifetime without spending my life savings on it.

Just do it!
Hello,
According to me, getting a daytona at retail price is not always a good option. Taking into account that you should wait several years to get it, what will be the retail price in the future? Right now, I think that grey market price are not far from retail price (+20% for a nice example) It represents 2 years of price increase...so is it really worth to wait that long? I bought one in 2006 with a small premium and the price I paid is the retail price now in France. Think about it even if lot of people here are against premiums. Raph75 |

Welcome to TRF!
As usual, only Rolex knows what will be introduced at the Basel Fair, and they ain't telling us nothing. Personally, I doubt that the Daytona will be changed, but that is just my opinion. It already has many of the "modern updates" such as solid centre links, updated clasp, polished lugs and even the Parachrom Bleu hairspring. Oh, btw.: the "black pvd coated" (not actually pvd!) already exists, although only as a non Rolex-authorised (or at least not warranted) modification by an English watch maker. There are other Rolex models (again modified) by the person, known as the "Prohunter" series (GMT II and Sub Date).

Who knows whats in the pipeline Not too long to wait now, only 4 months and then we`ll all know.
As Space-Dweller said the black Daytona and Pro-Hunter (GMT and Sub) are out there. These watches are not authorised by Rolex and are not covered by the Rolex guarrantee!! If ever they were sent in to an RSC for service they would only be worked on if the client aggreed to have them returned to factory specification. That may mean a full refurbish (to remove the coating) if it could be removed and if not a new case, bracelet and dial as well as a full service!!!! |
