Two tone submariner question

I have found an authentic two two submariner for sale. I have verified that the watch is 100% authentic, box, papers, original receipt, and recent service record that watch was serviced and contains 100 rolex parts.
My question is the watch is old. It is manufactured in 1993 however in saying that it is in excellent condition. Person is asking 7300 I was told that that is way over priced. AFter some back and forth negotiation the gentleman will sell for 6800 but will go no lower. I am still told a watch this old is not worth this much. Any advice on what a fair price would be? This will be a gift for my son. Thank you

In my opinion the seller is asking too much for a Two Tone Sub that is over 20 years old..

However, condition is paramount in dealing with used watches, not boxes, papers, or receipts.. If the watch is in mint condition and original (this is different than authentic), the price may be attractive to some collectors..

If you plan to wear and keep it though you should be able to find many others out there and save yourself a thousand or two.

Yeah for a 20 yr old I would pay around £3.5K max so $5.5K.

Well I wouldn't sell mine for that price as well so it's all relative to what someone will pay. I would keep looking to find a seller that needs the cash. Some owners don't see value in a TT sub where as I feel that they should demand a higher premium than SS.

You should be able to find a much newer TT sub here on the forum for that price.

Way way way too much. You can get a no holes case version with box/papers for that amount of cabbage! Check the classifieds in this forum I'm sure u can find what you're looking for. Good luck!

For all those who say that the 'right price' for a TT Sub from 1993-ish, what is the corresponding 'right price' for a SS Sub?

Given the recent dip in gold prices, the watch probably is down to around $1100 in melt value 18K YG.

So you think $4K is what a 1993 Sub in SS should go for?

Back to the OP: $6800 is higher than one would expect to pay for this model if you shopped around, but if you trust the seller and it's in great shape and can afford it, why not ?

For around $6,500 you should be able to find one on here that's only about 5-7 years old

Prices dont really compare in the used market that way... Buying a watch made made with gold is akin to buying a new car... Once you drive it off the lot...

SS is a stronger performer.

Condition, condition, condition...Meh...gold is still gold and will always be a precious metal.. As far as the age of the watch, its not like we are talking about a technology driven item that can go "out of date".
I am not sure how much newer or older really matters. Its a automatic watch so its not like a newer watch is technically better. For that matter, as long as the watch just had a service and has been properly regulated, there is no difference if we are talking about the same bracelet. A newer watch that has been beat up is much much worse than a clean older model. Does anyone really think Rolex build quality is any better today than it was 20 years ago???? One could argue just the opposite and if we are talking about a classic blue TT Sub then it might be more desirable than a newer flat blue TT Sub to alot of people. Newer does not = better.

Who cares about age? My Bluesy is a 1996 vintage and I would not have a problem asking 6 thousand for it. Can you really tell me that the price of 18K gold has not increased since 1996? Condition is a key factor. And the movement of the new ones is still the same as the older ones, 3135 caliber

Exactly... Its like we are talking about cars or computers. This newer is better is absurd when applying it to a automatic watch.
