Icon6 Rolex Watches in BLACK

Why don't Rolex make 904L Stainless Steel watches in BLACK – i.e. a version made direct from the factory in Geneva? As opposed to aftermarket versions offered from companies such as Bamford in London etc.

Don’t get me wrong the aftermarket versions in DLC or PVD coated Black are superb… but I can’t help but think people would be more likely to buy them in Black if you were to see them advertised in the Rolex catalogue

I personally would buy one, but don’t really like the idea of an aftermarket version that has been customised by another company and therefore in my mind not original! Maybe I am old-fashioned, but would rather one direct from Rolex.

I have seen a Submariner coated in all black and… WOW!!! I think it would be a big hit at Basel 2014! If the steel was all black and not coated it would not scratch as much as well or you could make one like the ceramic bezel material but just solid black - would not be cheap like any Rolex I know - BUT what do you think guys?

Black watches are a fad IMO and, luckily, Rolex is fairly good about staying away from faddish behavior. The worst of the black watches are the coated ones that you are suggesting - at least the carbon ones don't scratch and show metal.

Too True - but I think Rolex being Rolex would make the steel solid black all the way through and not just coated if possible

After all Rolex blackened some MIL subs for the South African Military .... So they did start it.

I love my DLC GMT ... And it is coated and does not scratch ... So far.

I'd rather have no Rolex than a DLC'ed Rolex. No bueno,

There is a new black Tudor Chrono. I don't believe it to be coated.

There are so many other brands that offer PVD or DLC coated watches, venture out a bit and enjoy some other brands for some diversity.

Regarding your avatar, that looks like a james bond type watch which spins like a saw to cut rope? Did you make that yourself? Got a website link where they are sold?

It's carbon, and not very good looking IMO. The new carbon Speedmaster, however, is nice looking.

I don't like them and think it makes a Rolex look cheap. One way to ruin a perfectly good watch.

Rolex is too conservative and un-innovative for such watches while other brands are more in the vanguard of change.

I wouldn't put Rolex and "un-innoventive" in the same sentance.

they never will, BUT if they did plenty of people that claimed they hated black watches would all of a sudden love them.. FACT.

Perhaps you could ring up Rolex and tell them why a Black Sub would be a hit at Basel 2014.

I'm sure they would be keen to see the data.

I wouldn't put the notion of painting a watch black and innovative in the same universe.

I did mean a solid black one and not coated as suggested, but am not sure if it is possible to manufacture stainless steel in solid black since it is stainless . Rolex may not be interested in making it now but as ‘Friedl41’ said they have done so in the past for the South African Military! To PocketAces – Welcome to TRF… Regarding the avatar it is just a screenshot from the actual movie ‘Live and Let Die’. Thanks for all your comments guys and enjoy
