SS Daytona VS Pam 356

Never have tried on a Panerai until this weekend. Tried on a few and really like the 356. Already have the white face Daytona on the way from my regular AD. Never owned any other hi end watch besides Rolex. Cant buy both. I really like the look of these Panerai. Also love the daytona. What say you all?

Between the two Daytona wins for me. Good luck with your decision.

Pam reminds me of a television set from the 50's they have that deep retro look. Great design if you want To go that route.

Love and own both brands. Between your two choices, I'd advise you to stick with the Daytona.

I had a 196 Daylight and the Daytona. I'd get the Daytona first but definitely get a Panerai later. Hyde Park has a good selection.

+1 Same here. Daytona is the quintessential chrono. PAMs IMO look their best in base form.

Daytona for 2 reasons one resale far exceeds the Pam and it's Rolex.

This one and save for an energy level pam. That's what I did. Now I have both.

While I understand that people tastes are their own (and I respect people personal choices), I personally don't understand all the love for Panerai. They are obnoxiously big and only come with straps which is two of my biggest no-no's. I'd even take a Milgauss over one and anyone that knows me will probably gasp at that...

Definitely Daytona for me!

I used to feel that way, Dan. Now I love the variety of looks/feel of my PAM as a casual watch. The simplicity and clean, bold look of a base PAM IMO is a really nice chage of pace.

Having a bunch of straps to choose from is fun.

Certainly not a Daytona replacement but a nice adjunct to the collection.

My love of Panerai is rooted in their history just as with my love of Blancpain, AP, Rolex, PP, JLC, Breguet, Lange, etc...

Ditto. I have a few chronos, never seriously considered a Daytona.
Screw down pushers should have disappeared 20 years ago.
Mix it up and get a Panerai!

Love PAM.

Love them so much I picked one up about two months ago.

Within two weeks it stopped working. I had to wear it while away on business for 3 days, while it only told the correct time twice a day. It was torture.

I know this can happen with any watch or really any mechanical item at all.

But it's hard to get over. The PAM is gone.

Besides the Daytona is legendary. This is any easy call.

My Mercedes stopped working as well, I just fixed it, and bought another...
All things break, and PAMs are not notoriously fragile. If you really loved it, you'd probably still have one.
Land Rover on the other hand... they're dead to me.

If you already have a Daytona on the way, how about another Rolex model? I like the Panerai's but would rather have multiple Rolex models.

Probably Daytona first...

I love Panerai and if your after a chrono you might want to track down a 196, 250, 188 or 251 to try on.

Way different look - especially with then more "flat" chrono pushers - but I love'em.

Just my 2 cents

Daytona. As a Pam's supporter, go only for the basics if you want one.
