Jewel in the desert (Pic heavy)

So I woke up this morning, made a cup of tea, sat out on the patio deck and thought "what a nice day." Figured I'd start the day with a hike I haven't done in a while. So I grabbed my trusty hat, a knife and a camelback. Could use a watch too. I don't have an explorer though. I guess the DJ will have to do. Here are some pics to share with you guys. Hope you enjoy

45 minutes later by mile marker 2 on the Arizona highway. The adventure begins.

At the mouth of the canyon trail

More canyons!

The canyon terrain can get very boring. So lets cut to the chase. The goal of this hike is the majestic jewel of the Southwestern United States. The Colorado River.

It may not seem like it, but the Colorado can get real deep. Just about 100 ft.
Or 30 meters.

I dove as deep as I could but, the Colorado is cold all year round. I had hard time holding my breath.

I hear Oysters love the water.

Georgeous country there!

Really like the water shots, it was very clear that day.

Hope you had a rewarding hike. Be safe in those flash flood canyons, as always.

Anks for posting. I enjoyed reading and seeing about your adventure

Glad you guys liked them! I had a great time hiking towards the Colorado. The hike back to the freeway was a whole different story! It was uphill all the way back and several elevated climbs. What made it worse was as midday approached, it was a race against time to get out of the canyon while there was still pockets of shade along the way. Come noon, the sun is no longer at an angle, it smiles directly above you and the canyon turns into quite the furnace!

Scorching!

Resting in the shade

Running out of water

Finally made it back to the freeway. Took a quick nap under the bridge. I was exhausted!

But man, let me tell ya. The pictures don't do it much justice. The Colorado is gorgeous and is one of those things that just has to be experienced in person.

Quite right Bryan! It's also rainy season. But I watched the clouds for good measure. I also always carry an emergency inflatable tube from REI in the camelback pocket just in case. Though how much good that would do me in a flash flood is something I hope to never find out.
