Beware of Replicas being sold in the Virgin Islands

Was at a resort in the Virgin Islands and watched a tourist's newly purchased "Rolex" Sub fill with water while he was basking in the pool. To say he was irrate would be lacking.

I spoke with him and found out that he had purchased it from a respectable non-Rolex shop in ST. Thomas. To make a long story short, it was a decent looking replica - but it didn't look so good filled with pool water. I don't know the outcome, but he said he had spent over $6,000 . Another case of buyer beware and always buy the seller.

I know of one shop that sells preowned watches. I do not know of any "replica" dealers there and I know most of the watch stores in St. Thomas.

A shame, hopefully the guy can reverse the credit card charge if the watch was in fact a replica. If it was real and needed the seals checked or he had the crown unscrewed, oh well.

Could have been a real Sub, but the watch just didn't seem right - maybe I was biased because it was filled with water!

This is funny.

I was at one of our club's parties last year and a woman and I were talking about our Rolex watches and she told me this very story almost verbatim.

Of course that proves nothing, but it is kinda funny.
