Gifted an AP Royal Oak Limited Edition
Newbie here. I was just gifted a Rose Gold Royal Oak LE from 1992 by my dad as a wedding gift but I can't find any information on this model. Was this a good year? Is it valuable? I would like to get it refinished and have some maintenance performed by AP soon. Hope to pass this on in the future :)

First off, very nice watch! Congrats! D-series were produced between 1987 and 1994, so the time frame is correct. Besides that I cannot tell you a lot about it.

All I can say is that my reasonably well-trained eye for APs really, really likes it.

Fantastic piece! Send it in to APSC and have them service/polish to new condition. I'd also recommend asking about dial options for something a little more modern (make sure to keep the old dial).

I was wondering if they could do that! I would prefer a black face. Any idea on how much this would cost?

Beautiful watch, congrats. Can't tell you anything useful about the watch. But if you do send it to Clearwater, for a small fee they will authenticate the watch and issue you a certificate of authenticity. I just bought a pre owned ROC from an AD but without papers. I took it in to AP in Manhattan to review strap options and they told me it was an option.
If you go that route they said they could also give you an estimate for service since they have to open the watch to authenticate. It takes just a couple weeks for authentication. Just in case it's something you're interested in. |

No? It looks really dated and I'm going to have to do something, otherwise it's going to sit in a drawer. The 80's and 90's was not exactly the pinnacle of industrial design. And it's always reversible back to original.

That does look like the Faldo. Im English and followed him winning all his majors and his Ryder Cup successes but I'd still swap out that dial. If it was a Seve that would be different.

We tend to be purists around here so keep that in mind. IMO if keeping the original dial means you won't wear it, then I'd ask about a different dial. No point in owning a watch you won't wear.

Just dropped it off at the AP store in Manhattan. He convinced me not to change the dial. Estimated time to complete the work: 12 WEEKS.

Get a black dial!!
I know the dial is a big piece of what makes that watch special, but you'll find yourself looking at it instead of wearing it.

I was comparing my RO to the newer models and the dial is significantly smaller. I wonder if the black face is even available for it.

i think once you get it back all blinged out you will prob change your mind about the dial being so bad.
