Tourneau visit

So I walked in my local tourneau which is something I don't usually do as I don't really like that store.Havent been in years so I was at the mall and went in.they had 2 ss Daytonas and I asked how much and they said 14k,to which I laughed pretty hard. They tried telling me how rare they are and I just stopped him there. Then they had a14060m and I asked about that and they said 7500.00 with no card just a box once again I laughed.Does anyone really buy watches from these horrible stores?Anyways it was amusing that they really believe what they say in there. Then I went to an ad across the mall and was looking around and asked if they had any Daytonas and the lady goes "no those are very rare" so I said sure lady,to which she replied "do you have one"? So I roll up my sleeve and say yes I do and walked out laughing.

Always good for a laugh.

People must buy there because the lights are still on.

I don't step foot in that store....bunch of snobbish people who think their watches are more "rare" and superior. It would be interesting to see the individual who walks and spends more for a Daytona than what Rolex advertises it for....just pathetic.

I actually had a decent experience at Tourneau when I bought my first "nice" watch, a Breitling Aerospace. The salesman knew what he was talking about and the price was surprisingly reasonable. This was at the store in Natick, MA.

I will admit that ever since then when I've been in other tourneau stores, the experience has been nothing short of appalling. I was told in their 57th street store that my 16613 (now sold) was worth $3500 on trade when I inquired. When I asked why, the lady working there smugly said to me that she was being generous and they normally don't give that much. For the record, they had a 16803 in the display case for $7,750!

Other experiences there were less frustrating, but the salespeople there generally don't know a thing about what they're selling and will go as far as flat out lying to customers in order to make sales. While it can be fun to window shop in there, I'll gladly take my business elsewhere (aka TRF!) and save thousands in the process.

I think it was just the specific salesman I had. I never dealt with the rest of the staff there so for I all I know they were clueless too

They can be kinda snobbish for sure. I walk in with my work clothes on and they look at each other like OMG I have this one, once I see that face I tend to have fun with them.
I start at the Omega display.(I like Omega) then when I try one one and take off my AP the attitude changes and they do everything to make me a happy shopper.. I waste some time and politely leave.. It's even more fun when I'm with my wife and I get under her skin too... But she gets even at Gucci ...

Forgot to mention, I've noticed that they move preowned Rolex watches very slowly. While most of their watches are overpriced, their Rolex watches are particularly bad. I was in their Vegas store, then came back a few months later and noticed the same 16618, 16520 and white gold Daytona in the display cases, all still at the same absurd prices (I think $22k, $14k, and $30k respectively)

If you are buying new there isn't much they can do on price. Used they are the worst. I wanted to verify a breitling Bentley so I asked them what I could get for it. They said $2100 (authenticating the watch) even though they were selling the same watch for $7800.

Tourneau is GREAT for browsing.

Lousy, however, for buying.

In the diamond trade they often say, there is wholesale, retail and then
there's Tiffany.....

They could well apply this to Tourneau in the watch trade.

I like reading that people's experiences on Tourneau are based on trying to trade in watches that aren't worth a whole lot, and being upset at the low price offered.

Tourneau is a national chain company that deals with Rolex that does not discount (for good reason) and people act surprised and offended when they can't get a "deal." I've never heard of an AD offering Rolex above list price, and I do believe that's against the rules anyway.

It wasn't that they offered me a bad price, it was the fact that they acted like they were going out of their way to be generous to me, and told me a bunch of lies about why my watch was worth so little. I just don't like the idea that they were so comfortable lying and assuming I didn't know a thing about the watch I had.

Of course they are going to offer me below retail for my watch. However, other jewelers offered me over $1k more than Tourneau did and spared me the lecture about how no one wants a non ceramic TT Submariner with the stainless clasp (despite Tourneau having one in their case that was older than mine for almost $8k). Still though, I ended up selling it to a former colleague of mine who now wears it every day.

No surprise...louis vuitton , gucci stores etc etc all very poor operators...arrogance of success often means they take retail execution for granted.

Torneau, in New York and other major retail centers, are selling mostly to tourists and foreign travelers who a) don't have access to a local AD; b) are visiting the US and benefiting from FX rates and/or c) are not as fully informed as people here or other savvy consumers. For every one TRF member or sharp watch aficionado who goes there to just window shop, there are many, many more who go in, first time shopping and plunk down full retail, and walk out perfectly happy.
There must be some justification for stocking those million dollar inventories.

The sales staff at Tourneau in Houston at the Galleria is actually pretty good... they're good at just keeping quiet and letting customers try on watches.

I don't get that store. Who buys from them and what are their reasons? Can anyone who bought from them in TRF please speak up on your experience and motives for dealing with tourneau.

My friend bought a GV from the one located in Atlanta - his rationale was that they had what he wanted and he goes for instant gratification.

Yes. There is something to be said about instant gratification, but it certainly comes at price.

IMO I find their selection to be somewhat limited; they were the last to get the GV and still don't sell a BNIB SS Daytona (opting instead to sell pre-owned at $14K). This sorta kills the ability of the store to offer instant gratification.

He got antsy looking for a GV, and pretty much bought the first one he found. He did get screwed price wise, but got a nice watch.

Good for him. If he can afford to buy what he wants when he wants and isn't obsessed with getting a deal everytime then he's my kind of guy.
