What is next for Rolex - rubber?
It is way to early to discuss Basel, but I was talking to my dealer and apparently Rolex has filed a patent for rubber straps.
He thinks Rolex will join the rubber strap trend and add ceramic bezels to the SS Daytona and possibly the DateJust lineup. I can see the ceramic bezel trend continuing, but I have doubts Rolex will go rubber. Thoughts? |

I'd LOVE a Rolex rubber strap. But probably not what they'd charge for one.

i would be shocked if rolex didn't start to offer rubber or more leather options by 2015 - 2016.

I don't think Rolex will come out with rubber.... They just don't seem to geared towards that kind of sportiness as Omega does... Of course Omega is the big sponsor for the Olympics, so it would make since for them to produce rubber strap watches, which look amazing by the way!!! But, Rolex on the other hand does't play by the same code as Omega... So I think Rolex will be keeping it strictly classic... Either leather or metals.... But time will always tell!!

If they got a patent for it, then it will probably become a reality.
I remember years ago they put a patent on an annual calendar-type watch and low and behold we got a Sky Dweller. It's inevitable especially if they go through the trouble of putting a patent on it. |

It would be nice if Rolex included a rubber strap in addition to the metal bracelet on their sport models (or divers at least) for what they charge these days. Probably won't happen but it would be nice.

More probably though, they would offer the rubber strap as a lower cost alternative on some models like the Sub to get some of the buyers who have simply been priced out of the world of Rolex with most of the popular pieces approaching $10K or more out the door.

How will rolex make a cermaic bezel for a datejust? its a smooth or fluted bezel (you can include diamond there if you want to). Either made from metal or gold. anyway a rolex rubber strap would be nice but rolex has made the glidelock for that reason. A good option though especially since nato straps from RSC directly is no longer available. I wonder how much they will charge for one tho if ever. A nato from them is nearing 25$ before. A pam rubber strap is 200-300$....

I've never heard of this. Did they say they were putting ceramic on a DJ?
They have done lost their mind. |

They've had that patent a few years now. Not holding my breath for a factory Rolex on rubber, would be nice though.

Anyone able to scour the patent database to find a Rolex rubber strap patent?

Rubber is practical and fashionable but "cheap" in terms of luxury. So no

I would respectfully disagree. IMHO rubber straps are fine for Omega and others (I collect Omega, so no problem with that), but I like that Rolex keep bracelet only.

Your AD is right, the patent was filed in 2012 for a Rolex rubber strap. Here's the info:https://data.epo.org/publication-ser...95&ki=A1&cc=EP

+1 They could also throw a strap changing tool as well in the box.

With their new association with Formula 1, rubber seems like the next logical move. Maybe an F1 themed Daytona, however contradicting this may sound!

Should be able to buy a Rolex for $1500 les with a rubber strap, put it on eBay, then put the watch on a nice Camille Fournet leather strap. Sounds good to me.

It would be nice if Rolex included a rubber strap with all their sport models. But knowing how Rolex operates I'd say they would charge some exorbitant price for them.
