AP extra 3 year question

Hi gents,

Just a quick queation with regards to the Extra 3 year guarantee that you get upon registering your watch on AP website.

Does anyone know exactly how this system works? - when is the 3 year warranty effective from? Say, you've purchased your watch today 6th september 2013. The standard guarantee covers it until 6th september 2014. So if you register for your 3 year warranty when your standard warranty runs out, will your extra warranty cover you until 6th september 2017?

So my real question is, does it matter when you register your watch? What happens if you register after your standard warranty runs out?

Also any cons for opting in for extra 3 year warranty? (I.e when reselling etc)

Regards

You can't register after the end of the two years, as you have to send the watch in for a water resistance service ( which is free) some point within the first 24 months to get the additional third year. My understanding is third year is from date of purchase.

As for you question about draw backs re when selling,I would also be interested to know if there are any drawback - not that I plan on selling, love my AP too much!!

Hey Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

Do you have to send the watch for water resistance service to qualify for the 3rd year warranty? I thought you could just register on their website - that's what I did for my RO and they sent me the 3rd year warranty sticker.

Yes, as others have said, once you have registered on the web site and got the sticker, you need to actually send the watch in at some point during the first 24months.

I don't see any negatives I would say the other way , if someone is buying a watch with an additionsl year warranty , I would say that is a plus

Yes in that perspective it makes a total sense but I mean, if you register on AP's website, the watch is registered under your details so yes... (unless you can 'transfer' the details to the new owner)

I rang AP and they said I would have to send it in and get the water resistance check to get the extra third years warranty, so one extra year not three. Website registry alone was not enough.

Hey Neil,

thanks for your reply!

And do the extra warranties run from the date of purchase or the date of registration?

Purchase, then 3 years after that in total.

Correct and only when the watch is sent in for B1 test is the third year warranty activated, the stamp in the book is not sufficient.

You can register the watch at any time during the first 24 months as long as you do it with enough time to receive the sticker and send it in to AP before the 24 months from date of original purchase have elapsed.

A watch being registered to a previous owner doesn't mean squat. When you send in a watch for service, the serial number will be tied to your contact information.

Great info. This is something new to me. I have never sent in any of my AP's. What will AP do to the watch, exactly? I'm just curious. Would they open up the case and check the seals?

B1 waterproofing test only, yes they open the case and test the seals. If they see anything obviously wrong or you report any issues, of course they will go beyond that.

It might be a stupid question but would they replace the screws if they leave marks on them?

I am sure they would, but then you'd hope they don't mark them!

Can't they test water resistance without opening the case?

Well the seals are inside the case, so I would guess not, but I may of course be wrong.

Of course they can, however, it's not a true testament to how the seals look inside/and will hold up over time/expansion/wear… Therefore must be opened up, and regressed too

Careful about reading the date of your 24 month deadline. I thought I had until 9/7 this year but my 24 months were up on 7/9.
