final rant before next watch purchase
hey trfers,
I haven't posted in awhile but still lurk here and there. The time is here and the money has been set aside for my next rolex. It is my initial plan to purchase the DSSD as my second rolex. My first being the Sub-C. As you may imagine, people have been suggesting that I buy something else b/c of the similarities in the two watches. Obviously non-wis ppl have been giving me this advice. It has not steered me away from the DSSD as I am a still enamored with the watch. After this purchase I plan to chill out and slowly save for my grail (YG daytona - PN dial.) I am also a huge Rolex Daytona fan. My friends suggest that I get a SS Daytona instead of the DSSD but I am not convinced because I am more interested in a YG, and the Daytona is going through an update which will soon trickle down to the SS models. I am also into the explorer II/gmt II and have been checking out the blue/black gmt II today. Like it, but don't love it and think that the all black is the better look. Would be all over it if was to come in red/black. Not really into the DJII or DDII very much, and def not into the Yachmaster II. I plan to purchase from DavidSW upon returning from my holiday in Thailand at the end of this month. Would love to hear the boards thoughts, and I welcome all suggestions from you guys! Thanks

That is an interesting post that I can relate too. However, I too think the DSSD is way too similar to the SubC. But if that is what you like, go for it. Personally, if it were me, which it is not, I would absolutely wait for the YG if that is the grail. No sense it buying a band-aid fix. But again, if you are enamored, then it is not really a band-aid. Hard to really say. I like the SS Daytona very much.

I don't want to get the Daytona in SS now because I am almost certain one with a ceramic bezel will follow soon.

The latest model is not necessarily the greatest. Get the watch you would like to have and wear. |

However, since Rolex usually starts with the precious metal updates first and works down to the two-tone and finally the ss, one can predict that a ss ceramic is on the horizon. For this reason I do not want a current ss at this time. Also, i have my sights set on a yg daytona so the current ss doesn't really sing to me.

Good luck waiting on that. I predict at least 2 or 3 years. They have not even put it in the 2 tones yet not to mention the waiting lists that will probably be started. Unlike the Subs etc the ceramic bezel is not protected by an outer steel ring so I bet we will see some chipping for people who wear it every day. Even Omegas new blue 9300 Speedmaster has a ceramic bezel with a steel rim.
Go with the current SS now. It holds its value. You can always sell it in 3-5 years when and if the ceramic SS version becomes readily available |

congrats on the upcoming purchase... i'm also eyeing a second watch and not sure where to go. my first rolex was the GMTIIc (black). absolutely love it, it's my daily wearer - suit & tie, casual, etc... awesome for travel too.
my grail watch is a PP 5980/1A-014....but in the "LONG" time in-between time..I'm looking for a second and I still have regrets on not getting the Exp39mm; my next watch I'm looking for something that will be formidable on a leather strap... like a Exp39mm for instance. |

DSSD looks pretty badass... you'd probably want to get rid of the SubC.

Getting rid of the Sub C will be out of question.
It's been a childhood dream of mine to have a submariner. Naturally, the sub c was my first rolex and I plan to keep it.

Get the one you really want. Based on what you're saying it should be the DSSD. Then save up for the YG Daytona.

I just purchased a DSSD myself. Just came on Friday. I, like you, struggled with a love of the Sub and also the DSSD but find them somewhat similar. I was able to justify it by purchasing the DSSD now, and figuring that in a year or so I will purchase a Sub, but will buy a vintage sub, probably a 5513 or Red Submariner.
You won't be disappointed with the DSSD. |

When I first got my DSSD the others stayed in the safe for awhile. It truly is a one to go to watch if you like.

Buy the SS Daytona at the right price and trade it in for the gold Daytona when you have the funds. I'm doing a similar thing with the PP aquanaut - I will buy the SS first and trade up to RG when I have the funds.

I was contacted by my AD to tell me that they had a SS Daytona (black face) for me to buy if i wanted it .. it was my Rolex of choice for quite some time
when i popped in to buy it' i was confronted by the DSSD ...well the Deepsea went on my wrist and the Daytona was history! i sometimes smile when i see the Daytona on here or in a Rolex window! ...then i look down at my wrist and the Deepsea blows any doubt away stunning piece of kit |

A Daytona was my grail watch......forever!!! When I was finally fortunate enough to own one, something happened in a very short while. I found the watch wore really small, very uncomfortable (the crown was always digging into me) and to not mince words, boring!!!!! Anyway, sold it and owned a lot of watches since.........the only one that has made me happy and never leaves my wrist is...........drum roll............the DSSD!!!! |

Once you get the DSSD, I'm sure all the others in your wish list will look puny. Plan on saving a lot since I predict a YG DD-II is what you'll want a year from now...

DD II? I wouldn't bet on it. The plan is to do the DSSD now, the YG Daytona next and perhaps an AP ROO.
