Starbucks CEO's watch
Today's Wall Street Journal "Weekend Confidential" interview is with Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks (page C-11). His watch appears to be an Explorer. Agreed?

I have not read the article, however, I would not be surprised if he was wearing a Rolex... From my interaction from C-level executives in my line of work about 75% of those guys wear the Rolex brand... The other make up is Casio, Patek, and Vacheron from my personal experience...

Wow 75% is up there. What do think is the reason for that percentage.

I think it boils down to perception, with hard work and saving the workerbee such as myself can work and acquire a Rolex timepiece. behind closed doors from what I have seen may of the C-Level execs I have been fortunate enough to meet have extensive Patek collections... So for work they wear low key and closed doors or private dinners the big toys come out...

So much is made about who wore what watch - the real question would be how big of a limo brought him to the meeting

haha. ok, makes sense. in my head i was laughing almost like it was a slang term or rating system. i.e. "he's only a c-level exec, if he was an A-level he would have enough $$ to wear x watch" lol...

For any of those: CEO, CFO, or COO, the "C" stands for Chief. In other words, Mucky-Muck, Head Honcho, BigWig, Top Dog, Boss Man, Grand Poobah, Big Kahuna...

However, I have met a two upper C-level executives (custodial service technicians) sporting big Rolexes on weekends. Didn't ask any questions, just a nod to say hello.

I work for a software company that has acquired a lot of startups. Most of the newly-minted spend their money on Porsches. The few that have nice watches seem to favor Rolex or IWC. I think a lot of the reason is people want to buy a nice watch but don't really care enough to get into it, and buy at a watch boutique.
I do know one CEO of an acquired company who bought his management team identical blacked-out Milgausses. (Milgeese?) |

I work for a global multinational and we had our CEO in Australia last year, turns out we both had a Porsche (his a 356 Speedster mine a Clubsport), his watch Explorer II mine that day Datejust. Turns out he also had a Breguet, so yes it would appear 75% of CEO's do wear Rolex and Explorers at least from my data set of 1!

I'm the CEO at my company. Sadly, I'm also the head of marketing, the CFO, the HR director, in charge of the mail room, and also the guy who takes out the garbage and cleans the place. ;)

Yes, I very much like the chances that this is indeed an Explorer. But no one can say for sure unless you spot something that says 'no way' since there are more homages then you can shake a stick at.
