GMT Master II Question

Hi.

I'm considering purchasing my first Rolex, and am interested in the GMT Master II.

I believe the dial on the new ones are blue and black.

I've seen pictures however of GMT Masters with a red and black dial, which I think is more attractive.

Can anyone tell me when the ones with the red and black dial were manufactured?

Thanks so much!

You mean the bezel, not the dial. This site on the GMT Master will tell you all you need to know.

The Red/Black bezel insert was introduced with the original GMT II in ~1983.. It was available on all GMT II's until the introduction of the Ceramic insert models in 2007..

Apart from the bracelet. To be honest I don't think the older bracelet is THAT flimsy... I mean it's a lot more solid than I thought it would be.

Not to mention time tested for decades. Many new to Rolex or watches in general are put off by the classic Oyster bracelet. But thru time, knowledge, and experience they tend to be more openminded.

check out Rolex's website... after wearing the new GMTIIc and handling the older GMTs the new bracelet is miles superior.

see this link for detailed comparison between the old and new GMT.

Get the Coke. All the GMTs are great watches but my favorite are the 16710s.

The 16710 coke bezel with sel is what you should get if you can find it at a reputable dealer. I have the blnr myself and if I would have found a quality 16710 with box and papers prior to this purchase I would have taken it in a heartbeat. The blnr is a fantastic watch and I believe it will be a classic one day but the 16710 is a well priced classic now and has an inimitable soul.

I've always lusted after a Pepsi but ended up with the BLNR instead. Whichever you choose, you'll be happy!

If you are looking new (11671x), then your choices are blue/black bezel or all black bezel in stainless; black bezel in two tone; black bezel with choice of black or green dial in YG.

The GMTIIc is great but the 16710 is classic. You can get all three bezel inserts and have a coke, pepsi or black whenever you want. This is the one thing I don't like about the GMTIIc. The new bracelet and other upgrades on the new GMTIIc are great though. You can't go wrong with either one.

Price

What's a reasonable price for a used 16710 with the red and black bezel, that was manufactured in 2007?

All the ones I see online are in the $5K range.

Thanks!
