Submariner more expensive than GMT

Why is the submariner more expensive than the gmt? As far as I know the gmt is more complicated as it's able to tell 3 time zones and has a the gmt hand. Why would they price the sub more expensive? I mean retail price.

The Sub is more expensive ONLY because of demand. Rolex knows what they are doing.

No SS Rolex will cost more than 2 k to make.
Dealers take 38% of MSRP home and rest is profit to Rolex(4 billion dollar annual profit)

Price is set based on demand and popularity. GMT changed its skin drastically in 2008 which makes it less of a timeless time piece. Sub remains very stable classic thus a far safer investment(like Daytona). Movement Sophistication has very little to do with pricing( with the exception to Daytona) and the few micrograms of platinum in the bezel is negligible in value to sale price. My 0.02c

Yup. Econ 101.

There are many, MANY products that cost the same (or less) to manufacture...but command a significantly higher premium in the market.

That cell phone that costs $400 probably cost $0.06 more to make than the cell phone selling for $200.

What's been said already, plus perceived 'status' (300m w/r etc.) maybe? They just can't be the same price, either.

Oops...

Cheaper Easylink clasp on GMT-IIc vs. Glidelock clasp on Sub-C?
- should have realized that before.

Why does the GMT BLNR cost more than a Sub? for the same reason - supply and demand..

Everyone wants to be James Bond.
Just wait until Bond wears a different Rolex. Then it's Katie bar the door.

Doesn't the beefier case and WR have anything to do with it? Not that it costs Rolex much more to produce but it is a feature that adds value to the consumer that's looking for it, even if it's only for bragging rights, LOL.

$2.50 per meter to be exact. I see the humor but then why is the DSSD more than the date Sub?

Well now that you mention it, the Sub is cheaper than the GMT, so what's the point of this thread?

As others have said, it's all about the law of supply and demand.

Not entirely correct... The ND is, but the Date isn't. GMT costs 8450 and the Sub Date is 8550 IIRC.

You need to follow along. Jocke and I were just having a little fun. The date Sub is cheaper per meter than the GMT, and the DSSD is cheaper than both of them.

The Submariner isn't more than the GMT, it's $7500, the Submariner Date is more than the GMT.
