Paul Newman Values
Seeing as these watches have surged in value over the past few years, do you all still feel they will hold strong going forward?

If you are speaking of true PN or vintage references then yes. Although with this thread in modern section so not sure which you are referencing.

I'm not so sure. The market/bubble will peak/burst at some point.
...maybe. The vintage acoustic guitar market was surging for many, many years. It topped...then dropped...around 2008-ish. Prices are a fraction of what they once were. It's impossible to say for certain. However, the watch market is still chugging along quite well.

The prices of most collectables have cycles no matter what they are....... Just some things have longer cycles and lower volatility.
Ultimately, it comes down to supply and demand and with PN's it's the supply that concerns me a little as there are a lot of them out there..... Not all perfect by any means but the more supply there is out there, the more risk there must be of a cyclical market valuation..... But on the other side of the coin, PN's are so high profile, the demand will most probably help support the prices........ By comparison the MiliSub has a known and limited supply and will be far more likely to hold it's value and be more stable in it's valuation going forward ..... Well at least as long as vintage Rolex watches are in demand and collected..... |

Your're absolutely right Ken and pristine condition will always hold a serious premium and be far less prone to variations in the main market. But as you say, this is predominantly because supply of such pieces is limited.
But I still feel that everything has a cyclical supply/demand cycle and whilst I think the demand for vintage watches is probably still on the up, particularly when you find younger people wearing them them because of various high profile celebs, there is still a risk when you pay high $'s for a watch that isn't that rare......unless as you say condition justifies it as an exceptional piece...... But I think we're on the same page........and anyway Ken,,,,,,, because you only ever buy the very very best......your collection is probably as stable and safe as you can get..... |
