New watch owners - Plastic/Vinyl protection

For fun I thought I'd ask this question, how many of you try to keep the the vinyl stickers on the watch when buying it new?

I just bought my 116170BLNR and it bothered me when the rep at AD took off the vinyls when he had it sized for me. Actually thinking about it later really ticked me off. I am bit of of a perfectionist/OCD and like to buy new stuff as fresh from factory as possible. This bothered me so much that i called back the next day and asked them to call me when a new model came in because i want to exchange it, and to see if I can even go as far as to get it in the little plastic container/coffin that the watch is shipped in from Rolex. Long story short exchange isn't possible, atleast that's what I was told.

I just hate that now the side of the case is exposed and will pick up hairline scratches from cuffs. I'd like to have atleast been given the chance to keep them on! The worst part is the clasp, hate picking up scratches on it and would rather have it protected to keep it pristine! Especially for resale it really helps!

I think you're going a little overboard. It's a tool watch its made to be worn. Scratches are inevitable and are going to happen. Wear it and enjoy it for what it is a beautiful watch that is made to be USED.

You can always get it polished before selling. Scratches are going to happen regardless of how careful you are. It's a watch, wear it and enjoy!

Quite true, does Rolex have a complimentary polishing in the 2 year warranty?

No they dont, but someone in your area should be rolex trained so when the time comes, you can give it a lite touchup for a few sheckles. Now grab a shot of tequila, slap that gorgeous watch on, and show it off to some friends!!

No, they do not.. with good reason. Polishing or refinishing of the case and bracelet takes off metal and degrades the integrity of the parts over-time. Rolex expects a Rolex watch to be refinished a maximum of 5-7 times. Any more and you are shortening your watches life..

Light cleaning and a touch-up of hard worn areas is enough. Fortunately you will not scratch it at home or in your car if you have kept, or put on, plastic covers over your seats/furniture and floors and quilted the walls..

Hahaha that I have never believed in!! My mother had the done once to their couches and ripped it off. Never heard the end of it! She even put covers on glass tables where you wouldn't even know it was glass! Absolutely hated it.

Stickers Off if you ask me. It might save your watch from hairline scratches but I think it looks ridiculous when you see a person with stickers on their watch, especially when they have aged and are raising and worn around the edge of the sticker. You're just preserving the freshness of the watch for the next owner when you ahould be enjoying it yourself having spent your hard earned cash on it. It's like having sex with your pyjamas on and the lights off. Live a little, that's what I say. Go naked and with the lights on. You might just enjoy it a whole lot more. That's juat my opinion on it anyway, for what it's worth haha

There's medication for what you have! I like to keep my watch in the best condition possible to But exchange it for another one because they took stickers off?? That's a BIT to far.

In they end it's just a watch.

Not sure if I got it right. You will exchange your new gmt blnr for the exact same model to keep the stickers? Well it will cost you $ for no reason IMHO. stickers will get dirty after a short time and you wont use them. I would say enjoy your new watch as it is now and forget about that. But of course its your call.

New watch owners - Plastic/Vinyl protection

Bwhahha nice analogy, for the record the lights always stay on!

Yes I am always thinking of resale potential, when I had my exp II I only had it for 2 months and only wore it on my wedding, the clasp still had the protection. But i lost about 2k on it when sold despite that; was a US watch bought at full retail from Tourneau :(.

Hopefully the "Bruiser" will retain it's value much better.

Thanks for your input everyone, we all have our pet peeves and funny non-sensical ways.

if you're just buying to wear the watch once and resell I think you might be doing it for the wrong reasons. You should get a watch that sings to you so you can enjoy it for more than just that one time on your wrist

but hey that's just my 2 cents

This will be a keeper most def.

The Exp was bought on a whim on a shopping trip/Bachelor party and got bored of it and thought I'd use the money. Only to end up regretting selling my only Rolex and felt incomplete. So I pulled the trigger on this using my 30th bday as an excuse!

You sound like, with your OCD, a prime candidate for over-polishing your new BLNR. Try to hold out until servicing time (around 6 years IMO) and let RSC complete the work for you (service/polish). Good luck mate.

Congrats on the GMT, just wear it, enjoy it and just know there is really nothing you can do to avoid scratches. Some AD's will offer free polishing, but it is not part of the 2 year warranty.

I actually just take a picture of my Rolex and tape it on my wrist. That way the watch stays perfect forever. I used to just keep it in the box and tie it around my wrist, but that proved to be a little cumbersome. Especially when golfing.

Actually, in saying all that, I wouldn't like the guy in the shop taking off my stickers. I think they should come off but I enjoy unwrapping it myself.

This. I would be very upset. Unwrapping it is part of the ceremony.

Agree completely. AD employees are low wage, mediocre I.Q. At best for the most part with some smart attitude as well sometimes. I'd complain about it.
Try to sell a Rolex "fully stickered" and another BNIB not stickered and see what the TRF sellers offer you for each!!!
