AFRICA!! Modem burner

We have just (3 weeks ago!) got back from a trip to the UK via South Africa.

Bit of background.. Having graduated in mining from the UK in the early 80's South Africa was the only place to get a job. So off I went, met the Missus (from Manchester as it turns out). Anyway Two girls and a boy and a long story later, and we are in Oz.
So We decide to stop off in South Africa to show the girls where they were born..

Here we go...

Our first house in Johannesburg, interesting and a sign of the times. We built the house with the original brick wall. Since then (1990), the wall has been lifted with stone and the electric wire added.

Most houses are that way..

We then headed towards the east and the Lowveldt, here's a magic spot, Pilgrim's Rest (used to be a gold mining hot spot, now just tourists).

These guys were amazing just wanted a few coins but they worked hard for them and were very imaginative dressed up as scarecrows..

Onwards to the game park, Stunning.

5am and its time for a game drive

Gun ready just in case, but he has never needed to use it..

Big Five No1 Elephant

Big Five No 2 Rhino

Big Five No 3 Buffalo

Big Five No 4 Lion

Big Five No5 Leopard
Did not see them.

An amazing trip and highly recommended. The kids were amazed to be so close to wild animals. Must admit so was I and the Missus. Only managed one wrist shot on the whole trip, in France of all places, but here it is ...... GMT C Paris time on the watch, Perth time on the 24hr hand.

Cheers

Great pics Clive It must've been nice for the kids to see the place where they were born.

The animal pictures are great as well It must've been cool to have been that close to them. Seeing all of that meat on the buffalo has made me hungry

So close you can reach out and touch them. Not advised.

BTW all the meat is dried and its called biltong (bit like jerky but tastes much better)

Awesome pics, miner! Looks like it was a fantastic trip. As an avid photographer, I'd love to have a shot at taking some photos of that wildlife. It must've been nice to have the GMT-Master along too!
