Warning on choc dial RG daytona

I love my RG daytona on strap- to me it's perfect. BUT the dial is impossible to see in low light, and the 10 and 11 arabic numerals make the 50 and 55 minute markers hard to precisely nail down. Initially a bit disconcerting, but fortunately there's a few others I can wear if a perfectly legible dial is what I'm after.

Taking this one of safari with me when I head to Africa next week…expect some good wildlife + Rolex shots.

True about all the chocolate dialed Rolexes - for night safari work you really need a Ball Engineer that has tritium gas tube technology...

Precision is always a problem with non-stick markers - eg Arabic and roman.

As for the lume, what is illuminated? Jst the hands? Let's see a lume shot.

Personally I would be leaving my jewelry, Rolex(es) included, at home for a trip to Africa. However sounds like it'll be an amazing time, enjoy your trip! Don't forget to take lots of pictures and share.

its a dazzling piece, more jewelry than watch. The only "but" is the sundials that are indifferent from the dial which makes the chocolate color even harder to read

I did a safari in south Africa last summer....one of the best experiences of my life. Life changing. Take a ton of pictures, but dont forget to set the camera aside sometimes and just take it all in

That said, I would leave the expensive jewelry behind as well...

A. If you are in a jeep, you will be bouncing around for 3-4 hours twice a day...lots of chances to bang it up unnecessarily.

B. As stated earlier a piece like this a bit flashy in places where the average annual income may be 1/5 to 1/10th of the value of a watch.

I picked up a multi function Casio with temp, elevation and compass just for fun and it worked out well.

Thanks for confirming that Zachary. I can see in many pics the dial looks dark and almost greyish and yet in the ADs it sparkles obviously, so I do have concerns as that watch is on my list. I really like the polished black ceramic and gold combo and Im looking at this or an AP RG Novelty in the future, maybe leaning more towards the AP now.

I say bring a sports watch if you have one.

The leather is probably not the best bet for that activity.

I would not fear a good watch to go with you, but I'd make a different selection.

X2 on this one mate...I would leave the expensive jewelry at home....what you propose to wear on your wrist is MANY times the average annual income....if you're doing a safari you're likely in northern SA or above.....was in Joberg last year and left my goodies at home...why tempt fate?
