3 month review of my Milguass GV

Hi all,

Today I was thinking about my watch collection and decided to put a mini three month review of my experience with the Rolex Milguass GV 116400GV (Green Crystal).

When I originally purchased the watch I was contemplating on this watch (one I'm reviewing) and the new right out of Basel, GMT BLNR. Many people said that the honeymoon so to speak would not be as great with the Milgauss as it would be with the BLNR. So, after three months I am still enjoying my timepiece. And to tell you all the truth, at this moment, I'm actually content with all my watches. At this moment I'm really not eyeing a piece as I usually would be around Christmas. Needless to say, I will be saving back some of my bonus just in case I do find something.

So, now to my short review...

First and foremost I absolutely LOVE the green crystal. I stare at it all the time. In addition to that the orange second hand it eye popping.

As for the structure of the watch, I couldn't be happier. I love that it's a 40 mm case, but is thicker than the other 40mm models out on the Rolex line. This was one reason why it drew my eye as well. I think the thicker case adds more of a substantial look to the watch.

Being that the case is thicker, is do to the Faraday Cage. I didn't actually buy this watch because of it's functionality. So, I can't tell you all how it works around greater magnetic fields than normal, but I'm sure it does it's job.

I will say, that this watch adds a little more flash than other Stainless Steel Rolexes. I really do like the watch the way it is, but if you're looking into buying this piece, but don't like the flashiness of it, I'd say go with something else.

The time, of course, is kept perfectly and is now my go to watch. I think this watch is the perfect dress up or dress down watch. It can even be sported with athletic clothing too. I can't think of what type of dress this watch wouldn't accommodate.

So there you are. A little review of my experience with the GV... Here's a pic I took tonight.

I agree with all that. I also think the GV has kind of a 1970s vibe to it that I can't quite put my finger on. Best-looking watch in the current Rolex lineup for me.

Awesome watch ! and well matched with the cuff on your sweater
I've pondered the Milgauss off and on for a couple of years now and I'm just about to close a deal on a GV myself so I'm pretty excited for Christmas!

Awesome review! One of the reason why I purchased a Milgauss GV was because its so different and its not your typical Rolex watch. I also agree with you on the thickness of the watch, giving it a better look. I also love the weight to the watch, considering it a stainless steel. Nice and heavy :) I definitely think its the best looking watch in the current Rolex line up.

I can't think of any other Rolex that I would like to have on my wrist. This was THE Rolex for me. And I can't think of anything else that is this versatile and eye-catching and under the radar at the same time. Enjoy your watch is the best of health...and thank you for sharing

That's a handsome watch, it just looks substantial. But what else would you expect from Rolex. I've read elsewhere it's not actually a Faraday Cage that protects it from being magnetised, maybe some boffins would care to elaborate?

Either way you've got a real keeper there!

I think it's the pinions that are anti-magnetic. Omega has a 15,000 gauss watch that doesn't even use a faraday case. They just made the parts from anti-magnetic material.

I guess I heard that it has a Faraday Cage. I feel like it came from a reputable source, but completely forget where I heard it....

Nonetheless, Rolex states this Milgauss' resistance to magnetic interference is the shield inside the Oyster case. Made of ferromagnetic alloys selected by Rolex.

I would love to get my hands on that new Omega though!

I saw the 15k gauss in the metal. It's quite a piece. Would be a nice complement to the GV and it also comes on a leather strap.

As for the faraday case, the omega salesguy said it didn't have one. But, he may be mistaken.

Hope they discontinue this. I have a gv and white dial. Love it. But it is a very niche watch. The odds of a person buying one rolex and this is the one I think must be very low. If they discontinue the value will go way up.
