The Everly brothers joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1961.
I knew Marines who were stationed with them at Camp Lejeune and the word was that they were good Marines. According to Wikipedia, they joined the Marine Corps Reserves to avoid being drafted into the Army. That was before the draft and the commitment of combat troops to Vietnam, so I have to hand it to them for choosing the Corps. Serving in the Reserves also had a minimal impact on their careers.
