This, that, or the other?
Hi there.
I hate to add to the number of these threads, but I'm having a lot of trouble making a decision. The three watches listed below are great, but unfortunately I can only get one. I feel it important to note that I plan to have a two watch collection. The watch that is ultimately chosen will join my 16610LV. This) Red Submariner 1680 That) Panerai 512 (42mm/inhouse/1940s Radiomir case) The other) JLC Tribute to Deep Sea Vintage Chrono (40.5mm/751G) So which would you get? An explanation of why would be much appreciated. And why not? Here's a pic (and a half) of the LV that the chosen watch will accompany from a recent winter getaway to California (same one during which I tried the 512). *Sorry if this isn't "Rolex General Discussion" enough...* |

The Pam 512 is very nice....if I can get my hands on one, for less than retail might be the next watch in my collection.

I would go for the 1680 (vintage, uniqueness, resale), choice two would be the JLC (quality, also uniqueness). Panerai, would not even be in the running. There are 2 watch stores I frequent, one is in Orlando and the other in Naples, Florida. Both are flooded with used Panerai watches.

Pam 512 for me.
It's is elegant and dressy and completely different to the Sub. A watch for differnt occasions. The 1680 and jlc are too similar to the sub IMHO if you just want two.

I'm a fan of variety to some degree. If you only have two watches, I wouldn't add another Sub. So between the Panerai and JLC, I'd go JLC! I've got a beef with the Panerai brand in general these days (over priced, derivative, poor customer relations) and cannot recommend them to fellow watch enthusiasts.

Of your choices, I'd go for the PAM out of the three just because it's very different from the others. If I were to go down to only two watches, I would probably go for something a little dressier than the PAM 512. Since you mentioned the JLC Deep Sea, might I suggest something from the JLC Master line? I think one of those would make a pretty killer pair with your LV.

That's tough as for me it would be a no brainer with the Red Sub but you have the LV already. I personally would go with the JLC but it's close as I really like the Pam too. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Please let us know what you decide. Can't go wrong either way

From that list the JLC no question.
You already have a Sub and I do not care for nor understand Panerai.
