Rolex Datejust Dial Authentication

Hello everyone. I am a new member and was told that someone on the forum may could help me with my question. I am looking to purchase a 2000 TT DJ. The only problem I am having is that I have never seen this dial on a Rolex. I am wondering if this is an authentic dial or not. Any input would be greatly received.

I've never seen anything like that. Kind of looks like a weathered tropical dial but I've never seen a tropical dial on a DJ. I'd have to say it's aftermarket.

The watch is genuine but I'm not sure about the face. It has paperwork with it that matches the serial number but the paper work has it listed as a silver dial. I know the dial has been replaced but like I said earlier I'm not sure if this dial is a genuine rolex dial or not. Just never seen it before.

Not me.

Custom dials are very common, are also very easy to replace with an original.

If the price is right and the watch is genuine as the OP says this can be a great opportunity to end up with exactly the watch/dial combo he wants.

Kind of like buying a house that needs some work and is priced accordingly...

I had the watch checked out and it is authentic. The price is $1900 basically because its where I work. Let me know if this is a good price for an authentic watch with a debatable dial on it. Thanks for all the replies.

$1900 for a running, guaranteed authentic 16233? Yes, yes all day long.

Piece appears to have some stretch in the bracelet. My guess is that the dial has corrosion, etc. Interestingly, the center appears to be fine... I wish you could open the case back to see if there is any evidence of moisture...

There is no evidence of moisture inside the case. As stated earlier, this is not the original dial. In my opinion as well as some that have seen it in person it is a custom dial. As for the numbers on the dial I have no idea because the guy I take my Rolex's to lives 2 ˝ hours away. I have not had a chance to let him check it completely and was hoping someone on here could provide some feedback. I appreciate all of the replies.

Dial looks like it has suffered moisture problems. A new dial installed would probably cost $300+. It could be a good deal if movement shows no signs of moisture damage.

Just a follow up on the original post. I looked the watch over in person again and after taking into consideration all the advice everyone has given me I decided not to get the watch. There was just to many things that threw up red flags. In my opinion it was probably a piece mill watch some jeweler put together. Not enough original for my liking. Thanks again for the input.
