I'd keep the Speedy.

I'm looking to buy both of these in the future. Both are decendants of great conquerers, of moon and mountain, and as they are very well priced you should really aim to get both.

I've had both. Don't miss the speedy. Miss the explorer.

The first sentence of this thread alone excites me. But for me. I get the speedy first. A must have omega.

I hope we're talking older, used Speedy Pros here. The new ones are really big. Resale value is poor.

The current model 3570.50 is almost identical to the Speedmaster 145.012, which is believed to be the model Buzz Aldrin wore on the moon. The differences aren't that large. Omega says the 3570.50 is 42mm but mine measures 39.75 vs 39.5 for my Submariner. The Omega Speedmaster Professional is hands down the greatest value you can find in watches today. You can not get more watch for your money anywhere. I believe I would give the Speedmaster the edge over the Explorer on resell value, if purchased used.

I recently put my Speedmaster on an ostrich skin strap and it gave a completely new look to the watch. I'm also waiting on a couple of Heuerville straps to come in for it. (Thanks to Tony aka Learning to Fly for turning me on to Stewart Morley!)

I know this is a Rolex Forum but I would choose the Speedmaster over the Explorer any day.

I do... Both great watches. One speedy with a retro look, and one modern take of a classic Rolex. Both very versatile although I tend to lean towards the explorer when I suit up. As long as you still have the mental acuity to remember what day it is, these two are classic must haves.

I've had both the automatic and manual wind speedies, and sold them. The automatic one has an eta type movement, and i flicked it as it isn't near as legendary as the manual wind. I sold the moon watch because it wears too big ON my wrist. The watch is not heavy, but WIDE.

Get both, but go for the Speedy first. I recommend a vintage model (mine is a '67 Transitional)...it feels great to have one from the heydays of NASA and almost 50 years of history on my wrist. As mentioned, swapping the bracelet for a strap adds a ton of character and looks fantastic.

As for the Exp I, I love mine, but it's the more traditional 36mm version (14570). A more recent pickup, but it's become one of my daily go-to's. Understated and tough as nails!!

The main drawback to a vintage Speedy is that it can't really be your only watch. You need to take care of it more than the Exp I. Getting one from mid to late 80's could help with the robustness (and price!).
