SS yachtmaster II thoughts?
I'm thinking the 2013 Baselworld release SS yachtmaster II is looking pretty sharp. 44MM? perfect without the DSSD thickness. Problem? I'm not a yachting enthusiast or a 'skipper'
thoughts? it has a hefty price tag for SS around $16000.lmk anyone own one? pics? |

I own a YG one and am not a yachting enthusiast either--one of my favorite watches and
absolutely love it and it's awesome wrist presence! It really pops and for me is one cool watch! By the way I own a Sub and don't dive either. Come to think of it I own a GMT and am not a pilot. Oh and a Daytona and am not a race car driver.

Yeah, kinda expensive for an SS. It's the complex movement that's making that watch expensive. More expensive than the highly sought after SS Daytona with white dial.
The DSSD is roughly $6,000 less. But hey, I personally don't have a hankling for this watch. If the YM II SS is what you want, I guess you're better off paying and getting that instead of making a purchase you'll regret on some other model. |

The YM II is one of my least favorite Rolexes, but the Regular YM in SS/Plat with the blue dial is one of my favorites.

I love the yacht master and the II; I'd feel pretentious with out the requisite yacht to race with it. Now if I had the yacht I think I'd be salivating to get one. Really the YMII looks like it would be great for timing the start of a race, perfect.

I am starting to really like this piece. But might hold out for the AU version.

If I could only have 1 SS model, this would be it. Even the incredible pics by Charles and Serg do not do it justice.

I think it's really cool looking but for me it seems like not a very practical piece. If I had lots to spend, I am sure one would end up in my collection somewhere but I'd definitely not choose it as my first piece.
Not everyone dives, climbs mountains, or pilots aircraft but most people do spend some time in the water, like the outdoors, and travel as such a Submariner, Explorer, or GMT Master make sense on some level. The YMII is a beautiful but very specialized piece in my opinion. |

For my needs, the complication if of little to no value. Couple that with the fact that the whole watch is designed to read the complication, not the time...no date...the oversized yachtmaster script on the bezel. It is just not for me. But if I had a larger collection, I may succumb to its beauty in gold.

It's a very handsome watch but you have to try it on in person. I lusted after one for months but when I eventually put it on wrist at the store, I was disappointed - it didn't sing to me at all.
Went for the new TT ceramic Blue Sub instead. |

Same experience at the ADs, was far more taken with the YM 1 blue.

The watch is too busy looking for my tastes. Also, usually yacht racers use electronic timers with count down buzzer/beepers. To each his own, though.

I tried this on at my local AD a few months ago and I love the size of the watch. As someone earlier stated, it has the size of a Deepsea, without the height problem.
Unfortunately, the dial is too busy for my taste. Having said that, it sure has wrist presence so if it sings to you ...... |

The YMII is probably the one and only Rolex I would buy in yellow gold - it really looks amazing. As for SS I would avoid it and go for one of the other sport models

I think it's one of the best "looking" watches Rolex has out to be honest... my only gripe is the "YACHT MASTER II" writing on the bezel. I could do without that but all in all, beautiful
