Flipped 14060M for 16610 and my thoughts for doing so
Good day all -
I recently acquired a 14060M, which was and is a fantastic watch. There's just no denying that. After owning the watch for about a week, I just could not get past the lack of a date function. It was near killing me. I never knew what day it was and to be perfectly honest, without having the date, cyclops, and "superlative chronomoter" written on the dial, it just did not feel complete to me and IMHO. That is not to say that there are not AMAZING time pieces out there, such as the 14060M, with clean faces and smoother appearances. I had no problem with the 14060M bracelet, the end links, or anything. It was the date that was bothering me to the point of losing sleep (I'm sure others can relate). I just had to make the flip and I am so, so glad that I did! Here is an iphone shot of the new (to me) M Serial 16610. By the way, my 14060M was the classic "2 line" submariner. HAGD All! (Sorry for the sideways shot, I just cannot get the iphone photo to load correct.) |

Nothing wrong with that. If the 16610 didn't have the cyclops my choice of Subs would have been much, much harder when I bought mine!

Yes, when it came down to it, it was the fact that this is my only watch and a daily wearer, and I constantly need to know the date (approximately 10 times a day as an attorney). So this was the wise choice for me. Maybe someday I will add the no date again as a secondary watch and rotate, because that was a beautiful timepiece.

I love the nd sub. I think its so clean looking. On the other hand I feel like I underestimate the benefiy of having the date so readily accessible like that. Yes phones have it but that isn't as classy to pull out a phone as it is to look down at a fine timepiece. You couldn't go wrong with either. Congrats

I too, like to have a date function.
Ideally, I would prefer one with a date that didn't say "superlative chronometer officially certified." |

I have to agree about the date function on a sub...while in theory I love the idea of simplicity I have grown so used to looking to see what date it is on my watch that I don't notice it on my cellphone.
People are always saying you don't need a watch now because everyone has a smart phone...what rubbish that is on so many levels!

Makes total sense, many people want the date on their watches, and it's why I don't understand those that argue vociferously why the Daytona should never have one and those who would like one are crazy.

The 16610 sub is the choice of many submariner owners not to say that the other models are any less a rolex. It's just a matter of preference.

I've been wearing a Hulk for about 3 years now (after 20 years with a 16610 and a 16613) and bought a 114060 to rotate with the Hulk. Could not get used to the no date and no Cyclops. It was a great looking watch, but kept getting less and less wrist time. Sold it.
Great choice, the 16610, and congrats. |

For the iPhone pictures, take pictures with the phone horizontal. They look odd on the phone, however they load correctly onto the forum that way. Hope that helps.

I had to have the date. It was a must. My brother didn't want it and is glad he didn't get one. No regrets for either of us. I'm with you on this one. Long live the date!!!
