Sea Dweller Double Red, AD Brisbane.

I was in my local AD today looking for a watch for my wife and they had a SD Double Red that had been recently traded. It looked to be in reasonable condition but I felt it was a little pricey at $55,000AUS. Also a GMTII with a VERY untidy bracelet that they wanted $6700AUS for. Far too expensive. They wouldn't refinish the bracelet as part of the sale either. That was very disappointing!

Also the sale assistant said that the current AUS prices are currently the lowest in the world (?) but hinted that there will be a price rise early to mid February of around 5%. Although Rolex hasn't/won't confirm that.

I thought this May be of interest to some of you.

Cheers,

Nino.

AUS prices are currently the lowest in the world?
Even if we were buying them with US dollars the AD is dreaming.

Sea Dweller Double Red, AD Brisbane.

I saw that Double Red at least a year ago so I wouldn't say it was recently traded.

The red is too high a price, Aussie Ad price is high, off to hong kong in a month, much better new and used price. However, low Aussie dollar is effecting things overall for us all and likely effecting AD too.

Just an aside really, but Hong Kong is extra cheap now if you are coming from UK as the pound has gained a lot on the dollar in the last year (US and HK dollars are linked). For example, a year ago in HK a new Sub 114060 would have cost you 5,000 pounds. Today it would be 4,500 - less the usual AD discount of 5% making it 4,275 pounds. Not bad.

Agreed, but the opposite effect for us Aussies, it's getting more expensive to buy in HK.

Yes, my point in the OP was that I was told by an AD representative that Australia had the lowest pricing, when It is obvious (from various sources) that this is blatantly not true.
She then showed me two second hand watches that we're extremely over priced.

Australia is very expensive right now. I've been pissed off a few times here as I feel very strongly that I am just being hustled.

Nino.

Just to put everything in perspective, a few months ago a $US6K watch would have cost us Aussies $AU5770.00 approx. now at the current rates a $US6K watch is $AU6975.00 approx.

It's a big difference in my book.

Well, yes that is true. But the watch you'd have paid $6k for would have been $7.5k here anyway!!!!

That's if you bought the watch in Aus, not the US.

Well maybe if the sales assistant thinks those at the North Pole are the highest in the world?

Whatever you can buy in the US is cheaper there than in Aus. So if you have a $6k watch in the US, the equivalent here is always much more expensive. When we had AUD and USD parity it was still the case.

No, as said, a few months ago if I chose to buy a watch from the US it would be a lot less expensive than buying one from the US now.

And I was slinging poo at the equivalent Aus pricing, not exchange differences. ...... of course it was better to buy from the States with stronger AUD in the US before the AUD tanked.

Not trying to cause an argument but when you fire in with a statement with four!!!! exclamation marks, then you have me thinking you haven't read all the posts.

Anyway, glad we agree on the initial point.

Now that is a crazy price unless it was an MK1 Patent Pending then it would be a bargain!
