winding smoothness

had a chance to try on the GMT IIc (its a beauty)the other day and was fiddling with the crown settings. i went to wind it and it was just BUTTER smooth. compared to my 214270, it was considerably different. my exporer's wind is fairly "rough" when winding slow and smoother(but not like GMT) when winding fast. is it just the caliber characteristics?
i will say that if i pull the crown out to adjust the time, it takes a pretty good tug to get it out initially. then i can press it in to first position and it pops to second position much easier.

My old Date was a little grainy when winding but my Sub is butter smooth as well as my DJ II.

This has been my experience. My 1970's Rolexes have a little pleasant graininess, but my modern Sub winds like absolute butter. I would expect a 214270 to be buttery as well.

All mine wind smoothly I guess, but you can feel and hear it winding if you put your ear up to the case. So not smooth like when setting the hands in position 3.
