Doers it bother you.....

.....while your at another jeweler or even you AD and while trying on other watches, the sales rep pick's yours up to inspect it? One of Bo's other posts got me thinking about the other day at a non-AD and I just got the impression that he thought it was a fake...............until he picked it up. Any thoughts?

Although it has never happened to me before, I don't think it will bother me one bit, UNLESS he or she drops it.

Kidding aside, the people at my AD know me and my family well and treat us and our watches right.

I have tried that, Kurt! Several times, in fact. I go to an AD, take off my Rolex to strap on another model. And bingo: The sales' assistant takes my Rolex to look at it. Probably not to see if it's real, but just to look. And then he or she places it with the caseback resting on the bracelet!

To answer your question: Yes, it does bother me.

A testimonial as to why to leave the hologram on your watch. I still have mine on my Explorer. Nothing to do with originality but it serves as a caseback scratch protector. The hologram on my GMT II started lifting and getting funky only after a couple months. I had to peel it. I don't worry excessively about caseback/bracelet abrasions. It's the ones on the other side of things that are detrimental to resale value. As far as AD salespeople handling my watch, it happens. Depends on the circumstances. Once, they cleaned it while I ogled another. I figure if they drop or damage it, they are liable to fix it. Strangely, if a woman does it, I don't mind. Older salesman, not so much. Young male just wanting to judge how 'cool' it is... yes I'd mind.

x2 It's been done to me, don't mind them looking but when they rest it on the desk with bracelet on case back.

If it was at some other jeweler you aren't close with, I'd say something like... "Excuse me, I asked you to see this watch. I would hope you would have had the good manors to ask to see mine before picking it up." If it was an AD I was friends with or have been doing business, I'd think they probably just want to see how it's holding up or if they should offer to clean it.

On a side note, I was shopping at my least favorite watch shop about a year ago (Tourneau in SF). The sales person I was talking to was basically interrogating my wife to see the clasp and other aspect of her DateJust she was wearing. It had nothing to do with the conversation we were having about a watch for me. My wife (being the sweetheart she is) obliged. When she saw the new hidden clasp on the jubilee the sales person was saying something like "oh, you have the new bracelet" in a tone like, oh, it is real. Just put me in a foul mood. I was thinking of saying something pissy, but I just thought forget about it and left. I just thought that I feel bad for her. She has to work there. Thankfully, I don't. (sorry if that came off elitist or pompous, that sales lady pissed me off)

No Problem

I don't have a problem with it. I've even had them pick up my watch and offer to clean it. I'm handling their watch, so I figure they can look at mine.

I have never had that happen. What happens to me is the offer to clean my Daytona, I'm sure they want to see if it's real.

I would have no problem with it. They are professionals, not the guy at Starbucks. I would think you'd have to be a real tight-ass to get worked up over it.

I don't think it would bother me. My local AD asked to take mine and clean it while I was checking out some different pieces.

Since Tom (KansaiVet) is my AD, he knows the watch I am wearing is real. Hell, it was his at one time. Thanks Tom...got the Explorer II on as I type. Never knew how nice the Explorer II's are.

when i go to test drive a new car they don't get in mine and drive it around nor do they take it and wash it. they have no need to inspect my watch unless i ask them to.

I think the baristas at Starbucks have more class and better customer service than some of the "professionals" that work some of the ADs I've been to. I don't mind people touching my things, but don't grab something of mine without asking.

When the iPhone first came out, I was at an AD in SF and needed to empty one of my pockets to give something to my wife. While my iPhone was out on the counter, the sales person picked it up and started to look at it. I was like WTF?! I wouldn't mind them saying... "Oh, is that an iPhone? Can I see it?" But, the MOFO picked it up and the proceeded to start playing with it. I then said in a calm even voice "excuse me" while motioning for the phone back. And the sales person gave me an attitude about it?!

I don't crap on how anyone does their job, but I have only met maybe two or three true "professionals" at a Rolex AD. The rest were just people pulled off the street who became salespeople without any quality sales or soft skills.

My AD is full of knowledgeable watch enthusiasts. If they want to see mine I wouldn't question their motives but only because I know them and they know me.

I don't usually get too worked up about it. However, I thought it was funny one time when the assistant tried to put my TT Sub back in the display case.
I politely told him that it was my watch. He said, "what?" I said, that Sub that you are holding is mine. He looked at it and laughed and said it looked like a brand new watch. Couldn't get too upset about that.

Not to get off topic but when I brought my BMW in and took a test drive on a new one, they washed and waxed my existing one...

It happens to me often. So they pick it up and take a look at it. Big deal, as long as they don't drop it, it's not an issue to me. Most of the time they will clean it with the cloth when they put it back down.

I have a nice Rolex, so let the sales person admire it.

I know my sales rep pretty well at my AD and he is always very careful with my timepiece when I'm trying one on. So I'd say no it doesn't bother me. But if I didn't know the rep well, and they didn't treat it with care, I would definitely be perturbed.
