Question about 1680 red
Can anybody tell me wich box belongs to a 1680 red from 1971.
I have a 68.00.2 but I don't think it's the correct box. This box probably belongs to a normal 1680 or am I wrong.. I hope that you guys can help. Thanks in advance!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This full set sold at Christie's NYC will give you a good idea of what a red sub set is made up of:
http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/found-a...e-pics-pricing The inner box is a 67.00.3 Remember that it's not an exact science as AD's would receive the watches without packaging and then box the watch on sale with whatever they had available in store. The green stripe or seahorse outer are both correct for the red sub. There are a number of inner boxes that would be correct, including the 06.00.06 which I have. Here's a pic of my red sub set: Good luck |

Your box looks OK to me, but IŽll try to locate mine and see.
My previous answer about the seahorse referred, of course, to the outer cardboard box (that one I remember without having to reach for it)... |

Here's my complete-set 2.86 serial Red Sub. My inside box (06.00.06) looks similar to the one above, except the top of my box is flat, not with the slight pyramid shape. Also, just for the record, I'm not sure that manual with the photo is correct on that Christies set. I think that's an earlier manual for a Sub, but I could be wrong. The early '70s Subs usually have the manual with the sea on the front. Still, as someone pointed out, ADs often mixed and matched accessories with Rolexes, so who knows what was going on back then.

The Submariner booklet as pictured in the Christies link and in my set was discontinued late 1970, so very early 70's subs would have had this booklet and until AD's ran out of stock, so convceivably until '71 at the very latest (like the Christies set). |
