Cost Effective???

My father in law has an older men datejust (36mm) model with fluted yellow gold bezel with a two tone jubilee, the crown is also yellow gold.the dial is yellow with roman numerics on it.He 's thinking of replacing the gold bezel with a fluted white gold, new ss oyster, and factory black dial with factory diamonds. Please advise with the cost that will be associated with doing all these changes, where can he purchase the parts, and who is most capable of doing the replacement? He bought his watch between 8 to ten years ago and cannot tell me the serial number.Regards.
By the way,i can locate a M serial datejust,ss with fluted white gold, black dial with diamonds for around $5700 shipped. So should he go ahead with his plan or just to sell his and buy a new one?

He should sell his and buy the variant that he is interested in.

Off the top of my head, I would say your dad is looking at least 3 grand for those upgrades (A TT sub bracelet is over $4K) He might be able to sell the old bracelet on eBay and recoup some of his money but then the watch is not in it's original condition.

My vote would be sell and put the money towards a new one!

I also say sell the old and buy the new. Or keep the old and buy the new. But don't change the old watch that much, it will cost too much while killing the value.

I would say that it is not cost effective..

Selling the old one now for a couple of thou, then purchasing what he wants will leave him with a watch worth at least what he paid for it, and it will last for decades.

Modifying the current watch will cost about the same overall and leave him with a watch worth very little; perhaps less than he started with. There just isn't a market for modified older models

Besides the potential depreciation of value that Larry mentions, by trying to have it modified, your father-in-law could also run into a problem:

The TT bezel not being original to the watch configuration, RSC will undo the modification (although the bezel IS made by Rolex!) at his expense when the watch gets serviced.

And if you by "new Oyster" mean the updated, current Oyster bracelet, this one can not be fitted on an 8-10 year old DJ.
