Does this look right?
Greetings, I just had my crystal replaced on my P-Seried Sea Dweller. I had this done at a non-authorized dealer...I know, I know I noticed that the new crystal seems to be more opaque on the sides. It does not have the crown etch and it seems to sit a bit higher the the original. I did get the original crystal back. I hope someone could tell by the photos I've taken if this is authentic. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Joe

I see what you mean! But if you compare with the pics of my (now flipped) SD, the crystal does not seem to stand higher than usual:

The pics sometimes make it seem to protrude a little more than it does. One thing I do notice is that on mine the crystal slopes inward towards the dial on the side and I don't see that on yours. Yours seems a little more squared off but that may just be the pic. Mine as a comparison:

Mine does slope inwards at the very top. It doesn't seem to slope as much as the old crystal. What really gets me is the opaque look to the crystal on the side. Thanks for helping me out.

I am looking at my SD right now, and your SD's crystal does seem to protrude above the bezel a bit more than mine. It could still be an effect of the picture. Is it a genuine Rolex crystal, or at least did the watchmaker say so?

Mine doesn't look it in the pic due to the flash but it is clear on the side and not opaque.

Welcome to the world of after-market replacement parts. It may be sapphire and cut to the size of the original, but the plastic/nylon gasket sits higher and therefore the crystal is higher on the watch. Bad news - it may leak in water. Sorry for the bad news, but better know now then when there's more damage from water inside. Get it replaced w/ the real deal. AD can do that for you. GOOD LUCK.

I know this is a question of opinion, but will this effect the trade in value of the watch? Luckily the watch shows no signs of leaking. I do give it a bath everyday. Thanks again everyone!

RSC and some on this forum will be able to tell the difference. In that case, it will effect resale value. Don't dive in it until you change the crystal or have it pressure tested. If it leaks, RSC will be the first to tell you why. I recommend it just for piece of mind.
