To trade or not to trade? Opinions please!

Hello folks!

I'm usually quite the quick decision maker, but I'm having a tough time here.

For quite some time I've been admiring the Datejust II--actually since it's release.

I had been thinking about trading my 36mm Diamond Dial Datejust 116234 with hidden clasp as part of the deal. When I inquired at Tourneau over a year ago, I quite frankly was appalled at the value they were offering, so I put it on the back burner and stopped thinking about it.

Yesterday, while at my jeweler for a ring repair, I noticed he had the Datejust II with Rhodium Diamond Dial 116334 I've been salivating over. Pre-owned less than a year old in pristine condition--so I began conversation.

Basically, he is willing to do the trade at a total cost of my datejust + 3K, which I am sure I can negotiate to 2,800-2,900. For some reason even 3K sounds fair to me...am I wrong?

Would you trade?
Which one do you feel will hold value or maybe appreciate if any?
Do you feel this is a fair trade?
Additional thoughts?

I've attached a photo of my datejust and a stock photo of the datejust II.

I appreciate your input!

If you can live with the deal, then its a good deal. Rolex resale value is grossly exaggerated. You would be making a luxury lifestyle modification.. I'd keep your current watch and buy the other one if it wasn't so close to what you have. That way it eliminates any depreciation concerns. I love the DJ2. Its size fits me better. I'd go for it.

That's honestly the thing that makes it so tough! I love my datejust, but I think I love the size of the DJ2 just as much, if not more! If it weren't such a close "match" I think the decision would be so much easier! Ugh

I got rid of my TT DJ to help with paying for my DJ2. I couldn't be happier with the trade.

Considering that you're "salivating" over the 116334, I'd make the deal and be happy!

If you want it and can't have both, then trade. I want an AP, but realized that I want ALL my current watches, so I'm waiting to get the AP when the cash is right. Besides, I LOVE your current watch. Something about the classic (original) size of the DJ is just WONDERFUL.

I wouldn't do it. A 36mm DJ is a classic and a keeper.

Just my $0.02, but your current watch and the DJ II are somewhat similar. I have never been a fan of the DJ II because the larger size flattens out the bezel too much. It is not crisp like it is on the 36 mm. I see no good objective reason to trade. Now, if you can't live without the DJ II, that's a different story. However, be mindful that many folks regret the trades they do ... and, sometimes, having is not as enjoyable as wanting. Good luck.

A wristshot would help from a size perspective but in all honesty I can't get over how small the 36mm date just feels on a midsize man's wrist (mine for sure). So trade, but negotiate a bit more than that. GL! P.S you will miss that super jubilee.

I would do the trade...I'm not a fan of the jubilee bracelet. I also think the diamonds "pop" more with the darker Rhodium dial!

Let us know what you decide.
