Birth Year Watches: Want One?

There's been a bit of talk about Birth Year Rolex watches here lately - partly my fault. I wonder how many members are into the idea. Please vote. Thanks.

I want one, Daytona, but it is out of my range. Most others from 1973 are affordable. A day date or a sub would be nice.

I missed a 1016 late last year that had a receipt dated five days after my birthday. Was kicking myself. Still am. As it is, at least the one I did get has the year (64) stamped inside the case back.

I voted no, however if an exceptional piece ( GMT most likely) from 83 came up then I would be very interested.

Yes with the older type Rolex there were marks on the case back for the production date. First Roman digits the part quarter of the month second two Arabic numbers the year of manufacture.

Yes, I think it's a cool thing to have. I have a 1680 from '73 or '74. I was born in 1974, so I figure the watch was either made the year I was born or the year I was conceived. Either way, it's cool.

I love your '64 AirKing, by the way!

Thanks Dave. Ballpark is fine, it's just interesting to recall many chapters and events in one's life and think that this watch on my wrist was, someplace, ticking away ... from the earliest memories. Must be getting old...

Birth Year Watches: Want One?

I used to want one. Now I just want to find an excellent condition DRSD or red dial 1680 regardless of the year.

Would love one, but being anal about condition makes it hard to a watch that is over 30 yrs old in a condition I like.

I can see the appeal but price and condition would be far more important for me.

First of all...Chris. Stunning watch!

Second, if there was a 1974 GMT at the right price and condition...yes I would buy it!

Same here

I can just see my kids reaction, "why are you wearing that old watch for?"

Typically, if they have to ask, they won't "get it". God love em

Chris that is BEAUTIFUL!

I've been looking for the right 1970 (me) or 1973 (wife) for awhile.

I am unaware of a Rolex watch made in 1950 that would interest me.

Bought the Wife a birth year DJ for her 40th this year and I will get myself a 40 year old GMT in 2 years to match. I will start looking in about 12 months for the right one

Yes, I want one but it's hard and very expensive to find one that's unpolished and in great condition.

I almost pulled the trigger on an '85 Fat Lady in the classifieds back in November, but I decided it wasn't for me.

If I ever got a birth year watch, it would probably be that.

I originally wanted a 1973 Rootbeer, but they seem fairly rare. I always see 74 or 72, but rarely 73. I have a birth year Accutron Spaceview, and would love my first Rolex to be the same year. I'm itching to buy, so I figure early 70s is close enough.
