The Benchmark
When it comes to men's sport watches, there is the Rolex Submariner and then there is everything else.
And everything else is either trying to be like the Submariner or trying to not be like the Submariner. |

Yes and no. There are other equally nice dive watches, maybe better.
The Submariner does hold a unique place though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I gotta agree, the Submariner is the quintessential sport's watch. There are nicer movements, higher quality, but none as iconic. It's the most copied model, that's gotta say something, but yes Rashid's points are well taken.

Well there is today's Sub and than there is the Classic Subs.
Don't think anyone has copied the new model. |

Ceramic subs were the first to follow a trend instead of lead, with bulky cases and ceramic inserts. Up till then they were 100% original in concept and execution. IMO anyway.

The Rolex Submariner, in all it's iterations, gets me excited like no other watch.

My diver holy trinity are the Sub, AP Diver and BP FF, but the Rolex is the best value.

It's certainly an icon, but of course the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was first and has an arguably unrivalled heritage

"When it comes to men's sport watches, there is the Rolex Submariner and then there is everything else."
If you changed that to: "When it comes to diving watches, there is the Rolex Submariner and then there is everything else." Then I'd agree But as others cited, there are a few other iconic sports watches that could rival the Submariner. The Speedmaster Professional is the perfect example of equally iconic sports watch from another brand. It's best to keep both a Sub and a Speedy in your collection

When I was a kid there were ads in magazines, and the title "The Rolex Submariner" is still a great name for a dive watch, it only took me 30 years to be able to start buying them.

I'm not quite sure it's the benchmark but an icon most indeed.
