Explorer I vs Sub C No Date
So don't get me wrong, I love my explorer I! I just was looking at the sub c no date and asked myself...so, you have an explorer I with no date, why not go for the sub c no date? Nicer looking, better bezel, much better clasp, etc? I do have a Pelagos as a diver for the pool and ocean but overall I like the sub c no date better. Stand pat or go for forth with an upgrade? Gotta hate TRF for planting the seeds of doubt. LOL!!

It depends, if you want daily watch for 'dressy' watch for office wear, then Explorer is better choice than Sub as it can slide under the sleeve better.
btw, I have 1 question on this thread myself incase you don't mind for rest of the folks? If you own both Explorer 1 and Sub ND and you need to wear it on your wedding suit? Which is better option to wear? |

Can't go wrong with a 114060.

I would gladly have an Exp 1 and a sub but not one instead of the sub.

In some ways I do agree that the sub 114060 as a daily beater is a great watch...But then again you have a great diver in the Pelagos, and I would happily have stayed with your current collection of the Pelagos and the Exp I.
Don't know if this is true of NYC, but in HK where I am currently at, nearly everyone has a Rolex Submariner in some form or another, while there are not that many Exp I's...which makes is a little more special. I was seriously thinking about getting myself a second Rolex and it was down to the Exp I or the Sub C ND. And after trying both on, I was leaning very heavily towards the Exp for the clean, classic lines. The Sub C shouts too loudly IMHO. Just my two cents... DC |

I faced this very same dilemma about a week or two ago. Like you, I already owned an Explorer, and like you, I had been admiring the Submariner. I was NOT going to part ways with my Explorer, because that watch is AWESOME. I posted a similar thread to this one asking what folks thought about owning both, and with a little bit of encouragement from the members here that's exactly what I did. I was able to track down a BNIB 14060m, and I grabbed it up. I'm very happy with the purchase. In my opinion, the Submariner is an iconic sports watch, the Explorer is THE classic Rolex, and I think the two complement one another well. So for what little it's worth, my advice would be to consider hanging on to your classic Explorer, and adding one of those great looking, iconic SubC's.

114060 is a great daily wearer and IMO it doesn't matter that it's a more popular choice. You're not wearing a watch for other people so pick the one you like most regardless.

If I interpreted your commentary correctly, you prefer the 114060 to your Pelagos. So, easy solution, money aside, sell the Pelagos, keep your Exp, and buy a sub-c...Two ND watches that complement each other very nicely.

Pelagos + Exp.1 is a good combo IMO
Pelagos = Daily beater Exp.1 = Weekend watch / formal wear |

As others have said, sell the Pelagos, add some money and pick up a 114060. As I am writing this I am looking at mine and trust me it doesn't ever get old just looking at its beauty

i got both...
first explorer 1 then sub ND. both watches give different feels... thou both are considered as sport watches. but i think explorer 1 is more like a dress watch. love both! but if i really need to chose... sub will be a better choice. |

It's not an "upgrade", just a different watch.

Go for it.
You said it's "nicer looking, better bezel & much better clasp", so what's to decide? Both great, but the Sub is the stand out for me. |

The Explorer I is perhaps the most versatile watch in the Rolex line - simple clean lines, durable, discreet, looks good anywhere. And you have one, so don't give it up!
The Sub is a great watch for all the reasons you know, so flip the Tudor, get the Sub and be done with it.

Agree with the folks saying sell the Pelagos and buy the SubC. The Explorer and SubC are a perfect tag team.
