I'm not a watch!
I'm a human being! But, I really am a human being.

I do wish that Rolex wasn't as recognizable. I wanna be more like the patek under the radar, but patek and Rolex are not in the same pricing category in the modern area.
Bottom line, I'm a low key Rolex guy.

I once went to this shop where I asked the person to show me a Patek.
It had a $87000 price tag -- used. preowned, do not know the model. I picked it up and held it in my hand and looked very very carefully at the fit, the finish, the dial and whatever I could observe. I was holding the Patek for about 5 mins.. I was wearing a GMT2C at that time, so I was readily making comparisons. I could not see anything physically on the Patek that could have outdone that feature on my Rolex GMT2C. Rolex had done it superbly well. There was nothing in the Patek physically, without opening the case, for me to justfiy the price tag -- not one thing that watch excelled in that I could say that yes, it is worth this price tag. BUT I know the cost was in the movement. I am not such a big fan of movement to shell out such big bucks for a watch. So Patek has not impressed me so far. I just do not see it. The movmement, yes probably but visually, I have not seen a watch yet that can beat the finish of a Rolex. |

For me, the movement is the heart of the watch. The level of handwork and finish in the PP versus the Rolex put the two in different categories. Both great watches, different design targets, different market segment targets. One can admire both, neither, one or the other.

I favor Rolex because of its sport line. The PP is in a league of its own, I am just not that fancy

I prefer the sports watches of Rolex. The only Patek's that speak to me are Nautilus, Aquanut, and the newer versions of Calatrava. I respect the grand complication Patek's but they don't really appeal to me, but that may change as I get older.

I want a nautilus in the worst way. I cant get excited about selling two watches I love, then shelling out an additional 5 figures to seal the deal on a Patek...
Happened to be at a store last week that carried IWC.... Looked at the new 40mm Ingenieur.... Classic Genta design at a great price point with discount. So it happens to have a humble, albeit reworked eta movement. The case and bracelet finish work are beautiful. And I get to keep my PAM and my Sub as well. No question that the Patek is a work of art. But the prices are getting ridiculous. |

Also watching that video, I've noticed a lot of Americans pronounce Patek as "Pah-tech" while Thierry Stern pronounces it as "Pat-ick" http://youtu.be/jqRzzAi_NtE?t=1m11s

Not a huge fan of Patek at any price just don't like there style of watches great movements but even that would not sway me to buy one, even if they were Rolex money or cheaper .

I prefer the sound of the word Rolex over the sound of the word Patek

Other than the Nautilus and the Perp chronos I'm not a huge fan of most Pateks and their dial designs, I prefer Rolex and AP.

I'd be up for one if I could try it on before I buy. No matter how good (or bad) something looks on pictures, you never know until it is on your wrist!

I'm more of a sports watch kind of guy so I prefer Rolex. PP makes beautiful watches, but I'm not sure if I could do one justice. For dress watches, I really like Grand Seiko. It's no PP, that's for sure, but I'd still love one.

They just look really old fashioned to me. Perhaps when I'm 70 I might consider one.
